As a student I have given up so much to go to this school-as have so many others...students and employees. I'm not going to go into detail of my struggles that's just whining. What I don't understand is the total lack of communication. WE STUDENTS ARE THE REASON WHY THIS COMPANY WAS EVER IS BUSINESS. Why keep students (or anyone) in the dark? Let us know what's going on??! The ED student blog says the school is required to update us. And also required to provide information regarding a teach out plan/agreement. (Don't tell me to not take a teachout). I have put my everything into my education and have kept up a 4.0 this ENTIRE time and I refuse to go down with nothing to show for it. How can these f---.e.r.s sleep at night knowing they have ruined so many lives? We deserve answers! If any canton employees faculty/admin/teachers are here you know how hard the nursing students have worked and have sacrificed. If you know anything...tell us. Or anyone.

KM is problem sleeping under silken sheets every night. So is the director of your campus, who received considerable bonuses fleecing his faculty, staff and students while he/she and the corporate cronies and shareholders got fat on your broken dreams. Welcome to corrupt corporate America at its most despicable.
I am an employee at the ITT east side Indy and I am so sincerely sorry this is happening to all of the students! I wish I had news to tell you but the truth is, the employees aren't being told anything either. I have a stay at home wife and children and they don't even have the decency to tell us what is happening so I can at least try to get unemployment until I find a job. I am worried about how I will feed my kids or pay my light bill. I will probably lost our home. I'm scared and I'm mad. The students and the regular employees - not corporate big wigs - deserve answers. Not some cowardly email that tells us to take an extra day and have a happy weekend! Are they serious?! Very cruel and heartless ITT corporate!
"How do you not understand that nursing at ITT was always worthless, degree or not? If I knew my nurse went to ITT I'd tell her I would feel more confident doing it myself, this place is not well regarded by any company in America."
You are clueless. The academic standards on the nursing programs have to be maintained otherwise state boards close them down. Nursing academic staff are full time. The nursing students also have to pass exams to meet the state board requirements. Those who pass are readily employable.
Check your facts before you open your arrogant mouth.
Nursing from ITT is not worthless. I work in part of the ER and I have a few coworkers who graduated from there. The program is the same as other institutions, and they pass the same NCLEX. I don't think you understand the nursing program and how difficult it is. I would love to see you come to my floor and try and pick out which nurse went to ITT and which ones went to other institutions.
Contacting other courses to give yourself is a good move.
Nursing as a program has done far better at upholding academic standards than other ITT Tech programs because the state nursing boards' oversight empowers the nursing instructors to do what is right regardless of Modany's madness.
Nevertheless, since you have not already started a course you should probably seriously consider another program at this point. Good luck with your chosen career.
the nursing school MIGHT remain open ???
.... I am at a loss as to what to do now... Are you in a hurry to board the Titanic?
I was supposed to be starting the RN program in Canton on the 13th. I turned down other nursing programs to get into this one. I am at a loss as to what to do now. From what I was told by someone at the school, they think the nursing school might remain open and continue, as their record is better with the DOE. I have already contacted other programs, but was told to expect to come to class on the 13th.
Poster's advice:
" In the meantime, allow an old lady and nurse, to pass on what has been learned in her previous trials. When the road ahead is not clear, prepare for the worst and hope for the best."
What I can tell you is at least in my state where we have a dozen ITT Tech campuses, there is a Statewide effort to see what our community college system can do to provide assistance. I have gone through the relatively standard courses we offer in the discipline and compared them with ITT Tech's offerings and provided faculty colleagues with my analysis of whether we should accept them for transfer credit. Challenge is that element of debt forgiveness. It is a two-edge sword. Start over, particularly for those of you who are near the end of your goal (license and/or degree) and the longer it will take for you to enter a "high wage / high demand" field. Don't start over, completing your education and you are likely saddled with high debt.
What I can tell you is if you are forced to make these decisions, talk to people you trust who have life experiences like the person I quoted above, an listen to their advice relative to the pros and cons of your choices. Accept your circumstances, make choices, and move forward.
Wake up and do something!
I hope you are finally p!ssed enough to get really with yourself and take action.
May the force be with you!
@vjd Jesus is fake.
Nursing student,
You are right to be angry. No one here has the info you seek. We are trying to piece it together bit by bit. In the meantime, allow an old lady and nurse, to pass on what has been learned in her previous trials. When the road ahead is not clear, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Use your anger to propel you forward. Now is the time to be looking critically at other nursing schools, if you have not already. Keep in mind,you could be eligible for debt forgiveness if ITT closes, so make no hasty decisions. And remember that no matter what happens on Tuesday, no one can take away the knowledge you have gained. Sending best wishes for the road ahead!
Nursing student: At this point, on three day week-end, your only hope I think of getting anyone to listen to you is the local media. Won't get you answers, but you will feel better. I think you have some serious moxie!
From the perspective of a community college tenured faculty member, at a public tax supported college, I'm thankful for the education code protection that vests academic faculty with the responsibilities associated with maintaining academic standards designed to protect the value of our education products and services. Not so for this for-profit world the ITT Tech type institutions operate in. What has happened to ITT Tech, and other for-profit schools over the past few years, pointedly provides us with an example of a failed system. Those of you who will likely respond, telling the world how bad tenure is, need to recognize that it provides educators like me with the ability to go "toe-to-toe" with administrators, reminding them they are "at-will" employees of the college and they need to keep their noses out of the classroom, dictating what and how students are being taught. This would not have happened had the educators, and not those charged with fulfilling promises to stockholders, been in charge of product quality.
Please understand that the employees are in the same boat. Most of us really love our jobs and our students. We are just as in the dark and just as devastated. The only news we have is that we have been given another "comp" day on Tuesday and should watch our email to see if we should show up on Wednesday. We know nothing. We are worried about our co-workers and our students. The only people that can answer our questions are at the corporate office in Indiana.
@moonlighting
Why Woukd you say this kind of stuff to people? Have you no heart? Some of us have counted on this degree to get us and our children out of bad situations. Last I checked all the graduates from canton had jobs in reputable hospitals and clinical facilities. Don't be upset that you are not held at the same high and prestigious standards as nurses are. We chose the right path at the wrong time. This is not our fault. We don't deserve you being a complete d*ck about it. You need Jesus.
