Thread regarding ITT Educational Services Inc. layoffs

Kevin Modany, send email to staff and students outlining "teach out" plans you submitted to ACICS and DOE

just in case. Some people want to spend their long Labor Day weekend, that you extended through Tuesday, doing research. Do you seriously care about your students' lives and want to make their lives better? Then give them information about possible scenarios and contingencies, so they can plan!

The DOE has a blog up about possible impacts of current events on ITT students. Yet you have said virtually nothing except "we are waiting on DOE."

Show some leadership, Mr. Modany

Wow! Rome burns and that Stephen M. Vaughn is completely clueless about the dire situation at hand. This is how Modany and Co. were able to get away with it so long. Each campus had a dyed in the wool "yes man", blinders on, faithfully performing per instructions from Carmel...no questions asked!

The below was an email sent to students of ITT:

To all Everett Campus students,

I will have an update for everyone on Wed regarding the status of our campus. As it stands right now, the only students affected by the Education Department's decision last week are the new students. With that in mind, here are a few important dates in the near future:

1) Sept 3rd (yes, today) - last day to complete your surveys for the Summer term.

2) Sept 10th - Graduation at 1pm at the Canyon Creek Church on 75th Street. Come support your fellow classmates and see them walk the stage for their diplomas.

3) Sept 12th - First day of the Fall quarter for current students. I'm looking forward to supporting you in your educational goals.

Electronically Yours,

Stephen M. Vaughn, Ed.D

Director/Dean

ITT Technical Institute

Everett Campus

  1. You can continue your courses at ITT with your federal student aid. There’s no immediate change to your program.

Hmmm. Well, it sure sounds like immediate change is coming.

  1. You can transfer your credits to a new school (if that school accepts them) and complete your education.

"if that school accepts them". So no on option #2.

  1. You can pause your education and wait to see how this matter resolves itself in the coming months... you will likely be eligible to discharge your federal loans

"likely". One of my favorite weasel words.

Number 1 is only an option IF ITT-Tech DOES NOT close down.

Number 2 includes "teach-out" plan that ITT has. But you can find school on your own, as well.

Number 1 is irrelevant...after last week's disaster would any professional want to teach there without a substantial prepaid bonus, or fear of the foolishly common "corrective action" applied to instructors...if so, no classes to attend.

From Department of Ed blog

http://blog.ed.gov/2016/08/increased-oversight-of-itt-and-the-impact-on-students/

"As a current ITT student with federal loans, you have some options:

  1. You can continue your courses at ITT with your federal student aid. There’s no immediate change to your program.

  2. You can transfer your credits to a new school (if that school accepts them) and complete your education.

  3. You can pause your education and wait to see how this matter resolves itself in the coming months. If ITT closes before you finish your program and you don’t transfer your credits, you will likely be eligible to discharge your federal loans."

Number 1 is only an option IF ITT-Tech DOES NOT close down.

Number 2 includes "teach-out" plan that ITT has. But you can find school on your own, as well.

Number 3 is option only IF ITT-Tech DOES close down. If you choose third option, you can continue your education, but do not transfer any credits or you will likely be ineligible to discharge loans.

Unfortunately ITT-Tech headquarters clearly does not now, or ever, want current or prospective students to consider options for their future, carefully, using accurate information.

That is the number one problem with this organization, and should have been a huge red flag it is a scam, to any employees or students.

Oh well, never too late to for students to start doing their research.

Students have already been burned in the past by reps giving them sales pitch and demanding snap decisions. Students shouldn't be expected to respond to demands on this forum to DO THIS or DON"T DO THAT.

If students had some idea of what ITT-Tech is listing for teach-out schools, at least students could be researching those schools over this long week-end.

AND they could be carefully considering whether they would want to get involved with any of those schools or not.

AND they could be deciding if they would want to continue at any ITT-Tech campus that continued operations.

Whatever, for once students should be given some friggin' real info! Nicole Elam (ITT-Tech spokewoman), where is the support you keep spouting about for your company's students! Your last release was Aug 23 about Dress for Success event in Indiana!

ITT-Tech has not yet indicated to students, that I am aware of, what the possible outcomes of the DOE letter even are! Students should be told if there is significant possibility their campus will be closed.

Modany - "Appears to be a nice enough, competent fellow.."

Seriously? Have you ever heard him speak? For me he comes across as rather clueless and decidedly unimpressive.

Why does anyone need loan forgiveness?---just require ITT to return the money

"Teach-out" doesn't mean continuing classes at ITT-Tech campuses. You are thinking of "continuing operations." Here are some excerpts from ACICS letters to ITT-Tech that shows the difference.

Aug 25th letter from DOE to ITT-Tech says they must submit teach out plan to DOE within 30 days of receipt of letter. It acknowledges that ACICS has received a teach out plan from ITT-Tech.

ACICS letter to ITT Tech on Aug. 17th says

"ITT responded to the Council's teach-out plan request, including a complete listing of all 32,770 current students, their academic programs and expected graduation date; a listing of comparable residential and online programs; and the information for a third-party custodian for permanent records."

But then, the letter goes on to say that ITT-Tech has to submit a bunch more info by Nov. 1, 2016,

" the institution are directed to submit to the Council office an update to its previously submitted plan for the continued operations of its campuses that includes the items listed below. In addition ITT must also include a completed teach-out plan for any institution that has ceased enrollment and initiated closure" followed by a long list of stuff . It is best you go to this page and click on ITT-Tech link:

There won't be a teach-out by ITT Tech, or its employees.

If these is one (very unlikely at this point), some other sub-par online school will be induced to do it for ITT. There is at least one in essentially the same shape as ITT, that might be interested in a few more quarter's revenue.

Students need to be aware that if they accept a 'teach out', or even find a school to accepts their ITT credits, doing so will endanger their ability to obtain loan forgiveness.

What is the reach out plan that was submitted? I am a DOF who has been interviewing elsewhere for a few months. My Director and I were trying to figure out how a teach out process would work and who they would keep on at the campus to see it through teach out to campus closure. Obviously adjunct faculty but would they really need any administrative staff at the campus? FA could be centralized and done through HQ or the call center.

Appears to be a nice enough, competent fellow..seems like he really wanted to build a large institute and provide the education to all, but took too many wrong directions & approaches. Now many have to pay for all the blunders. He probably has a list of regrets, if he had to do it all over again. Maybe often thinking the truthsayers were simply naysayers (should have listened to the troops). Hindsight always makes it easy to see what went unexpectedly wrong.

"His email is kmodany@ittesi.com if there was anything you wanted to say."

Is this Modany's email address, for sure? Where did you get it?

I will forward him this request, using my itt-tech.edu email address. What is there to lose? I am adjunct, from summer quarter -- only have a few hundred bucks owed me this coming Friday.
