Looks like they are going to have a Rank-N-Yank before the end of the year. Each of us has to rank our peers based on criteria set by management. Suspiciously the managers don't get rated at all.
There are really only two reasons I can think of to do this:

Have a layoff and use the numbers for liability.

Use your status against you when you don't get a raise next year.
