Thread regarding McKesson Corp. layoffs

Rank-N-Yank

Looks like they are going to have a Rank-N-Yank before the end of the year. Each of us has to rank our peers based on criteria set by management. Suspiciously the managers don't get rated at all.

There are really only two reasons I can think of to do this:

  1. Have a layoff and use the numbers for liability.

  2. Use your status against you when you don't get a raise next year.

Probably not being done by location. Probably by team. Most of my team is spread across the country.

You can't be serious..peer ranking was phased out when I started my career in the 80's...it's not well liked or accepted in today's workplace..however, this concept may work based on the trouble McKesson finds themselves in. The top 10% would be distinguished as the top performers...as much as 20% could be subject to mass layoffs or employees placed on performance improvement plans.
