Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Fire VS.

Corp. layoffs are overdue.... and the RVP positions have yet to be culled.

Otis has been demoted, so no more EVP

SVPs have been cut down to 2 positions

DMs were cut last winter, but there is still room for more cuts as stores close.

Cutting the number of RVPs and reorganizing the regions would produce significant savings.

Start with the worst of them, VS!!!

Corp is continually adding more initiatives and raising expectations for stores to do, while at the same time cutting payroll and staffing at stores.

DMs and RVPs actually have less responsibility because of store closures. They are all have fewer stores than they did two years ago.

Time to consolidate districts and regions. It is easily possible to shed up to 1/3 of current DMs (eliminate market managers all together).

Up to half the RVPs can go as well. It's well overdue to start cutting dead weight at the field manager level.

I don't get how my region still has market managers. Seem very unnecessary to have a pre-DM managing only 5 stores.

These things won't change. It's all part of the reason this company is where it is today. The problem is that if the decision makers were to open their eyes and deal with their people problems, they would have to look at themselves, and Staples' moto is "denial".

100% agree with this. This company promotes and invests in the wrong talent. I can't tell you how many stores I have worked in the the SM should be the GM or neither deserve the position. Too many good managers passed over on promotions because they aren't your typical a** kissers. How do the DM's get away with their lack of involvement and accepting mediocrity. As for corporate and upper management this company is a lost cause. They don't have a freaking clue as to what truly goes on in stores. Upper management in Staples is a joke. Keep it coming it only gets worse with time

I agree..... more store closures means less need for DMs and RVPs.

It is inevitable, and I hope when it finally happens that they are treated in the same duplicitous and uncaring manner that they treat store staff.

Maybe Steve M. and Regis can go into V.S. 's office and kick and throw things the way V.S. does when he has one of his temper tantrums in a store.

V.S. going is a must. He is a major drain on morale in R1. Same for his DM S.M. in her district.
