You get COBRA for 18 months. Company may continue to subsidize for part of that time. Can cancel at anytime and go uninsured or purchase private insurance.

For non performance related reasons I am expecting to be let go early next year. One of my biggest concerns is health insurance. Can you explain how continuance of such benefits is determined or handled?

Shell HR is the most incompetent and robotic department i have ever seen, that's what happens when you let an engineering business run by clerks.........

When I retired, it was 3 weeks pay for every year of service capped at 1 1/2 years of salary; got paid for rolled over vacation hours, plus medical, dental, vision and life insurance continuance; HR are the keep of the keys on what you get. All the best!
