Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

So Staples, why are you not closing stores in Fla when there is a cat 4 hurricane expected to hit today?

Maybe Shira, Steve or DeSanto should go down there and visit some stores, as a sign of solidarity to the employees they are expecting to risk their lives to open a damn store.

Absolute greed and stupidity,

Be safe down there y'all. Don't take any risks for Staples because in the end they don't give a rat's a-- about you.

If you work in a store in areas affected by Hurricane Matthew and were not allowed to close and seek safety you should contact your local newspaper or TV news. They'd probably love to report on a large greedy corporation and it's lack of concern for it's employees safety.

Even Waffle House closed it's restaurants, and for Fla. that says a lot.

This policy they have about not closing stores even in the face of deadly weather has come back to bite them in the butt.

A few winters ago New England was being hit by large blizzards at least once or twice a week. One was especially bad and governors across several states declared a state of emergency and imposed a travel ban. After several conference calls, Staples begrudgingly gave in and decided to close stores.

The day after, my friend who was a GM, got a voice mail from his DM at 4am saying he didn't care if the GM had to run the store alone, he expected the store open on time.

Fast forward to that summer, the GM was waiting in the parking lot for his IS, as there is a policy against entering a store alone. The IS ended up calling out. It was 5 of 8 so the GM went in to get the registers open, as there were customers waiting to go in. As soon as he opened the useless, fat POS LP manager walked in and asked why he went in alone. Long story short, the GM was fired for breaking policy. Staples tried to block UI.

The GM still had the voice mail from the DM that winter. When he played it for the UI administrator he made his case and was awarded benefits. On top of that he filed a lawsuit and settled.

I did not move the batteries, if you want first aide kits they are in clearance dept. I did not go out in a hurricane category 4 storm to fill up balloons to celebrate it either. As for the baton it was blown away. Corporates priorities are backwards. And nothing but a joke. And I will never ever stay over night due to power loss . My family comes first. The president of the company will have to do it. Or someone else. I will not. That's putting my life and my family's life in Jeopardy. My priorities are different from them.

They don't care about employees. They only care about making money. But they should know by now its a liability to them.if you are not comfortable driving to and from work in a hurricane or snow storm or bad weather. Call and tell them exactly that. If they make you come in and something happens it's documented. Then you can own the company and run it as you wish.

Anyone caught using a rain storm as an excuse to not fill out the baton will get a note to file.

Please move the umbrella rack to the front register. Please also make a dump bin of flash lights and batteries near the front. Most of the first aid kits are on clearance, here is the chance to get rid of them. Optional: make a table of emergency supplies on the front end if space allows. Make it festive. Add some balloons, and man the table with Cpc labor signing customers up for rewards. Easy weekend to increase conversion. Please take photos of your emergency tables and send them up to your DM. Most festive table gets a $5 gift card. Remember it is a holiday weekend. Keep associates moral up. We don't have any budget for a pizza party, maybe have a pot luck type break room party. Stores may lose power, so the more food they have, the longer they can stay in the store. Alarms will not set when the power is out. There will be some folks pulling all nighters to protect our merchandise. Or even a few days. Cell service may go out, in those cases see if the walkie talkies can reach to the nearest employee's home to keep them up on the current sales figures. A morning rally meeting is mandatory about conversion. Let's not miss out on this once a year opportunity. Home Office is closed for the long weekend. So please keep your DM updated.

And don't forget they might need liquid armor for their phone, and some breakroom snacks, my God how the stupidity in this company continues to accelerate to new highs.

We can't close someone might need an ink cartridge and we will lose an opportunity to sign them up for rewards.
