Thread regarding Zenith Education Group layoffs

Why are you still working at Everest?

I worked at EUO for a couple of years after I graduated from college. At the time, I thought I had landed a good job in the field of education. I thought I would be helping our students earn a college degree and make a positive impact on their lives. Needless to say, I was wrong! After working at Everest for about a month, I realized that this school is nothing more than a scam. It preys on low income, mostly black students. These students thought they were doing something positive in their lives, but they were actually being scammed by us. They are talked into attending Everest, not knowing that their degree is worthless and they are going to rack up student loan debt that they will probably never be able to pay back. I have worked at real schools, and I can tell you that Everest is not a real school, it's a business that preys on disadvantaged members of our society. I got to where I could not sleep at night, thinking about the dirty stuff that goes on at this school. I felt guilty for being a part of this unethical company and I got away from that place as soon as I could. I felt so much better after leaving that place. I met some good people when I worked at Everest, I know not everyone who works there is a bad person. I'm just wondering how most of you can work for that school, knowing what a scam it is. Do you not care that you're lying and scamming people? Do you not feel guilty? It doesn't matter what your position is, the entire company is a giant scam and you are part of it. I hope many of you can get away from that place and find a more ethical company to work for. And by the way, Zenith is no different than CCI. They perform the same duties, they just have a different name.

9fab and bqrk (same person?) - Thanks for your service to these students. I assume that you were with Everest for a number of years. Unfortunately, the positive outcomes you mention have become increasingly the exception rather than the rule in recent years. Not your fault. As the market changed, Executive management forced the acceptance and retention of poor students. Employers became weary of hiring graduates with few skills. DOE has not - yet- forced the closure of this failed institution, but will when the loam forgiveness liability shrinks to an acceptable level.

I was not part of the problem. I am a career educator. Again, I cannot speak about what happened at other schools, but I can speak truthfully about my personal experiences. I regularly run into graduates who recognize me and express gratitude for what they got from Everest. I hate that everyone did not have the same experience, but it is unfair and wrong not to hear both sides of a story. There are in fact many graduates, at least in Michigan, who will tell you that they ARE working in their fields. These graduates are nurses, medical assistants, medical administrative assistants, medical billers and so on. I no longer work there and I have nothing to gain from lying about it.

Your a former director of education. You were part of the problem and you will make up things to make it seem right. Probably a Democrat too!

I worked for Everest Southfield for about 8 years, and I retired last year. I have also worked at various other colleges, who were all not for profit. There were certainly problems at Everest like being overly concerned with metrics and because they are open enrollment they let anyone who met the minimal requirements enroll. BUT, I saw most students who followed our directions get jobs after graduation. I recently went to my doctor's office and all of the MA's in the office were Everest grads. When my mother was in rehab three of the nurses there were Everest graduates. One of them was the charge nurse. I cannot speak for what happened at all of the other campuses, but I do know that most of the graduates I saw in my eight years DID get jobs in their fields. I'm a little tired of all of the complaining because if you work there YOU should be making it better. I am happy to say that "I changed lives" for the better. I know people who still work for Everest, and I say keep doing your part to change lives. If the schools were not doing their jobs, the Department of Education would have shut them down.

2bvb: you are 100% spot on. And don't leave out the ADA law where people with an IQ of a donut can go to college, too! We can't leave anyone out, that would be mean.

For profit schools are all about money. They are almost a pyramid scheme, just a phony diploma and large debt is the reward. Most all of them need to be shut down. But we the people are mostly to blame. When liberal politicians wanted to say that everyone should go to college, we went against logic and agreed. When liberal politicians wanted to redistribute wealth by taking tax money and helping to pay poor people subsidies along with the tuition, we agreed.

Lets face it, not everyone should go to college. Many are just too stupid and need to learn a manual trade or work unskilled labor. Its just biologically a fact, there are stupid people in this world. What Thomas Jefferson said about keeping the non-property owning masses from voting is coming true. They don't know the issues, they think only of themselves and what they can get, they are esily swayed with lying promises, so they vote that way. We are to blame for these rip off schools and the students must accept the blame for being to stupid to realize that the school has no value. But they wanted something for very little effort and they got what they deserved. its the hard working taxpayers , as usual, who pay the price.

oas - What ECMC is doing is immoral and unethical, if not illegal. Were it not for the deal struck with DOE, these schools would have collapsed under their own cost/revenue ratio long ago. As it is, ECMC is (with DOE's full support) incubating thousands of new bad-debt holders for them to farm in the coming years. As one prior poster put it so well, sort of like the repo man selling used cars to people he knows can't afford the payments.

How's that Kool-aid taste? The schools deserve to be ripped apart for what ECMC and the DOE are doing to the students, employees and the American tax payers. It is a total scam and needs to be closed. It's unbelievable that ECMC holds 5 billion in tax payer money and is using that money to run schools that should have been closed and pay millions to executives.

Grow up and quit ripping on the school. If you are so disgusted stay off any of the sites.

I never worked for Everest, I worked at WyoTech. CCi destroyed WyoTech, Everest and Heald and ECMC is finishing the job CCi started. The only difference between CCi and Zenith is Zenith doesn't give a crap about the employees.
