Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

So, it's October and the 4th qtr is right around the corner....

Time to shed some dead weight around Framingham and other field offices.

With all the stores that have been closed since 2012 I have not heard of any reduction in the number of RVPs. Surely, with approx. 250 stores closed in the last 4 years, at least 2 RVP positions can be cut and the regions realigned??? They cut the number of SVPs and DMs, why not RVPs? (and I am of course going to advocate my favorite person in the world, VS, get the axe first).

Speaking of SVPs. Otis has been out west for almost 6 months now. How much improvement have we seen? I mean this guy was once 1st in line for President, US stores, he should easily be able to improve a division, but maybe not. Since Staples has mastered the art of replacing hard working, competent GMs with bums hired off the street, surely the same principle will work with an SVP who is simply overpaid and neither hardworking nor competent. Get rid of Otis and replace him with a lower paid option. It can't hurt, and it may actually be an improvement.

Yup I know the conversation is about Staples Corp. But Staples Corp is also understaffed with a lot of work. At least that's what I heard. Don't know about other teams. Seems the online business is doing good but stores ain't doing that great.

I think the layoffs they were referring to were redundant Corp positions. There are definitely to many RVPs, DMs , blackbelts, etc and it's time to cull the Corp herd.

I don't see layoffs happening this year since already a lot of people have quit. Now its upto remaining people to either work or get out. Staples is already under-staffed and kicking out more employees will make it worse.

"I believe layoffs will come down this month."

Good.... So many worthless people at corp that could easily be let go.

As far as I'm aware, the goal is still 50 closures this fiscal year. I don't think even half happened yet, but I could be wrong. Stores larger than 12k square feet whose leases are set to expire are likely on the chopping block, along with stores seeing negative comps in excess of 10%. Or it could be more aggressive. I couldn't speak to home (or field) office realignments. We'll all know soon enough.
