Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Does anyone else wish they had been given the severance and ran the first time around?

Devon was always the "job to get" in Oklahoma, but since they did their "restructuring", everything that made it a great place to work has been taken - will will continue to be taken away more and more. On top of that, no one feels safe anymore (at least in my area). I feel sure that they are still watching closely, looking for any excuse to thin the herd, but this time without warning and without severance. There seems to be a lot of behind the back whispering, and I know the things being whispered to me, scare the hell out of me. I hope I wrong, and I hope things are better than they appear in my area, but this job is getting harder and harder to go to everyday - anyone know any companies hiring? I would take stability over a larger paycheck any day!! I hope everyone isn't as miserable as I am, but from what I see, it is pretty ugly throughout:(

There is a lot of stuff going on. Everyone is scared and works with their head Down. There were about 10 let go last month in IT. iT is still too big, the largest In the company, and Devon is not IT company. BI reporting still behind and metrixs are bad. They are looking for effectenties in both IT and accounting

It's been quiet on this site. Either nothing is going on at Devon, or Devon employees were warned if they even go to this site, they'll get canned.

Devon did not plan their restructuring well... they planned their divests, cut tons of people, and are still shuffling the deck like chickens with their heads chopped off. Then they expect to rig up, and have the same pace of work as before. I think they have way too many levels of management, and new ideas probably go up the ladder like a bad game of telephone.

Does anyone know how many people work in the Fort Worth area for Devon? That seems to be a stable operation for Devon. Wondering if there are opportunities there.

Devon has the best of both of those worlds: Politics on every level and h--kers on every floor.

To be thrown out on the streets of OKC in a down market s---s. There's nothing else here. But a large severance would provide time and opportunity to escape the city and maybe even the industry.

Devon lays off employees, then replaces them with inspectors, which attribute is that?

Got layoffs on 05/03/2016 Spring office. I started my new job downtown Houston on 05/23/2016. Got 20,000.00 on severance....It worked out for me and some of my co-workers.

I survived the Jan layoff but wish I hadn't! Devon was not the employer of choice for me. I was lucky enough to find another position and left by choice this summer. Make a little less but well worth it. Devon is not to blame but I am so glad to be out of there!

Actually there are quite a few O&G jobs in Texas. There are a lot of companies that didn't make the same blind, ego-driven, rookie, and dumbfounding mistakes that Devon did. Some companies actually thought about the future and their employees, and didn't ruin the legacy that Devon had a chance of leaving. Luckily Devon is trying to save face by throwing 100's (probably closer to 1000's) of low level employees out on the streets, since we all know it was their fault that we carried so many dead weight assets and over spent on just about everything that we did (tried). With all of that said, I think the early ones were lucky, and I pray you find the courage to get out while you can because I promise, the employment grim reaper is always near, and you will NOT get the same "generous" thanks for nothing severance package than those first rounders did. But what do I know, I am still sitting at Devon doing the same nonsense job that I always have.

There are not that many oil and gas company jobs in Houston either. Someone is just being an antagonist.

Enjoy the quick anonymous sεx while it lasts, only Devon allows that stuff at work but don't frequent the garage for your enjoyment!

Well I'm going on 8 months of being unemployed so I'd think twice about trying to find another job. They don't exist in okc right now.

Especially if you work in IT. I knew since the day Ben announced co-sourcing that my days were numbered. I hate it when I'm right, but at least I was prepared for it.

Forgive me for not being sympathetic. While i am working again (at considerably less), i went through some of the lowest times in my career and still have deep suspicions that Devon had no rhyme or reason for letting me go. They were just lazy and prejudiced.

You have an uninterrupted salary, benefits and security. If you are not actively looking for your next job, planning your own future, during this time of relative stability, then shame on you
