The company will try to place the impacted employees, who are in primarily engineering functions, in other available positions throughout the company — or help them in their transition to a new job outside of Caterpillar

I can tell you personally that little effort, if any, is given to place people in open positions. The placement group isn't effective or capable. Most placements have been through the good ole boys club.
We had a opening to fill in our section and were told we couldn't pick someone from the pool. We had to fill the position with a H1B contract engineer. So much for helping the people in the pool...

Where I'm at they asked a group if they were interested in a transfer to a different cat facility to stay with company. Those that said no got cut 2 hours later
