Thread regarding ITT Educational Services Inc. layoffs

Chicago Politics

You think Obama is just clearing the field for his buddies who just bought University of Phoenix?

No arguing that ITT has never had their day in court to present facts against allegations or has been given anything even close to due process with an unbiased party. All unilateral actions from the current administration.

Shady AF.

Staff may lose jobs. Students lose an opportunity to better their lot in life (if they apply themselves, as with any school). But even those outside are losing more than that with unchecked corrupt government actions such as these. Think about it!

UoP worthless and horrible until it is worth hundreds of millions to former DOE/Obama insiders. How to make it more valuable? Eliminate the competition.

Politics and profit -- regardless of which side of the table you are on, it's what makes the wheels turn. And either will run you over in a heartbeat to advance their own interests. Educate yourself to make sure your anger is rightly placed.

Agree or disagree with Kevin's management of ITT. He didn't single handily attempt the destruction of an entire sector of the economy with the only result being no change or focus on improving the "better" traditional schools, tens of thousands of students losing access to education, thousands of jobs lost, and...oh yeah....his associates making a fortune on one of the same companies he demonized. All without a single allegation proven. Calling it now--Obama will have a plush board or honorary Chancellor post at UoP by mid 2017, a la Bill at Laureate.

You are missing the point. ITT Tech degrees had become worthless because Modany's regime abandoned academic standards in favor of increased revenue - which only worked for so long.

Stop blaming the administration for the commercial choices made by an apparently incompetent CEO.

It's obvious that Modany couldn't resist the opportunity to rake his cut off the table. However, show me any college or university that finds jobs for the majority of its students. Show me a company that can withstand the government onslaught with unlimited funds to protect "complaining students".

Any fool blaming their school because they couldn't find a job is a fool.

ITT will end up being sold at a bargain to an Obama friendly non-profit now that the government has brought them to its knees. One look at who bought out Corinthian when the price tanked says it all. Do the homework.

The government is open for business and is a ruthless competitor when there is just so much money at stake. Here's the tuition math: 40,000 students x $4000 per quarter. That is a tasty slice of the education pie. Even government can't resist stepping in to "protect the taxpayer".

Failure to oversight this mess rests on the DoE. Lucky for them they have a burning man to distract the public and hide their ineptitude.

The students lose especially those close to graduating.

"Day in court" - ironic from the sleazy outfit that doesn't allow STUDENTS to have a "day in court".

Student outcomes were and are garbage from ESI.

That's why it is a diploma mill.

And that's why we say good riddance.

"So now who will buy ITT Tech for dirt cheap? "

Buy what? The potential liabilities could outstrip the assets without a negotiated deal. If BK court gets involved even the DoE can't sign off on a deal on their own.

"How to make it more valuable? Eliminate the competition."

ITT tech really wasn't a UoP competitor.

No but he did attempt the destruction of ITT Tech and in the process lost the possibility of losing the chance to use their federal aid towards a real education.

Any attack that starts with an attempt to defend Modany and the board is on shaky ground.

Wow, that is one mighty convoluted and complicated theory. Isn't it about a billion times more likely that the simplest explanation is the correct one -- classic human greed by Modany and his board of directors, and their buddies in ACICS, when faced with an opportunity and means to bilk hundreds of thousands of vulnerable students out of their financial aid dollars?

But whatever, believe your goofy conspiracy theories.

"No arguing that ITT has never had their day in court"

Who was talking about going to court in the first place? ...no need to go to court, they weren't able to convince the staff already held responsible for making such decisions (the dept of ED) that their program was solid, well-run, etc. Those are the people in charge of administrating funding & those are the people that make the decision. Are you implying the people specifically employed to make such decisions, shouldn't make them? If ITT doesn't like the decision, then they could certainly sue.

"He didn't single handily attempt the destruction of an entire sector of the economy with the only result being no change or focus on improving the "better" traditional schools, tens of thousands of students losing access to education"--did It happen by accident?
