I think the layoffs are part of the company's effort to be profitable ahead of the split and become appealing to investors. There's no doubt investors are very interested in the new company "Arconic." I think the Klaus has accomplished that goal. The major challenge ahead is the lawsuit with Alumina. Alcoans, past and present, have an opportunity here to drastically increase their 401k and stock portfolio accounts to pre-2008 crash levels. It's all about being informed and moving quickly on news. Much of this is discussed in the Facebook group "Alcoa Split Discussion Group." Join and add your Fellow Alcoan friends.

I think there is more at play in alcoa's travails , such as other governments. Yes the price of metal is low and ingenuity has always saved the day and yet the head winds seems to never end. If Alcoa goes under it will not be because of the people exempt nor non exempt.
It's difficult to speak openly if I have to use my first/last name as they want it on FB. I'd rather stay here
there are other areas to make the cut.......most of the laid off employees (FTEs) know that their jobs are being moved to Hungary
