do you think I want to go through nursing school again
---sadly, only if you want a job (itt placement can be rather spotty)
I'm 14 weeks from my RN. For the person saying that I should pray for the program to close and for debt forgiveness do you think I want to go through nursing school again!?
There is another ACICS school that is closing down, Cambria-Rowe, and it arranged for students to finish up at a local community college:
http://www.tribdem.com/news/it-s-a-sad-day-cambria-rowe-area-s-oldest/article_97004818-6a65-11e6-a19c-a31500756c00.html
Major differences between Cambria-Rowe and ITT-Tech, though. Cambria-Rowe did not have the same low reputation ITT-Tech has; rather, they anticipated upcoming shutdown of ACICS and did not want to deal with finding new accreditor. And Cambria-Rowe staff was praised by students for being incredibly helpful in making the transition go smoothly.
If ITT-Tech management had done its job, we all would know the viable options for a teach-out by now.
Pity the students who are trying to sort this out now, when employees don't even have a clue! !
ITT-Tech headquarters had to submit a plan to ACICS this summer, as part of its show-cause directive -- too bad ITT-Tech executives don't like to share.
So we are left guessing. Here is my take. It seems there are at least two major versions of teach outs -- by ITT-Tech itself, and by different institution.
ITT-Tech has already closed down several campuses this past year. This was for financial or marketing reasons, or something. The list is available on ACICS website; Bradenton, FL, is one example. Sometimes students apparently were first shuffled to a different campus, other times it seems they finished up at original campus. Not sure of details.
But the other type of "teach out" is also shown on ACICS website -- where one institution arranges with another institution to do the teach out. For example, here is a posting on ACICS website about a Florida school:
"Florida Career College to teach-out FastTrain College students
The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) was notified by FastTrain College that it will close all seven campuses in Florida on June 30, 2012. When an institution closes, ACICS’ standards require a teach-out plan that protects the interests of students during the transition period. To that end, ACICS has required FastTrain to notify its students about its closure and to provide them with the opportunity to continue their program at another accredited institution without financial penalty.
In consultation with the Florida Department of Education’s Council for Independent Education, ACICS was able to identify a post-secondary institution that is an existing member of ACICS: Florida Career College (FCC). Students who were at risk of being displaced due to the untimely closing of FastTrain will be welcomed at FCC and may complete their studies without interruption. FCC has campuses near all former FastTrain locations, and offers similar programs including healthcare and IT courses."

Actually you're the one who doesn't understand what a teach out means. The scenario you're describing is a transfer. Students could conceivably take their transcripts and try to get into another school with a similar program, receiving credit for some of the courses they've already taken at ITT Tech. The problem is that the school's reputation is so bad that it's hard to find an institution that will accept their credits for transfer.
A teach out means that the students' current school may no longer accept new students into a specific program or, in the case of ITT Tech now, into the school in ANY program, but they are committed to continuing to teach its currents students through to the end of their respective programs. If ITT Tech agreed to do this it would mean students who just completed their first term would be able to stay at the school until they graduated. The school's current academic guidelines say that it will continue to offer courses to students in their chosen major so that they can remain on path to graduation, as long as the student doesn't drop out for a term or fail courses. If you do either of those, you could find yourself facing a term with no core courses to take.
The problem with a teach out would be that every term it would become increasingly expensive to teach individual students, as class sizes dwindle. They'd have to pay rent and administrative staff salaries and adjuncts to teach classes with fewer and fewer students in them. Not only would it make no sense for the school to do this, but the students, I hope, will realize that they have a much better option anyway if the school closes. Then they likely would receive a discharge on their federal student loans. What every one who cares should be pushing to do right now is explain as simply and clearly as possible what a blessing that would be. Students may be out their praying that the school will remain open long enough for them to complete their degrees, but that should be the last thing on their minds. What they should be praying for is the school to close so they can have their loan debt discharged. There are no ways to describe how much of a blessing that would be to the students.
This information needs to be shared that even though it's likely ED will forgive loans for all students currently enrolled, those that finished their programs may be eligible for a discharge by bringing up claims of fraud.

Get your transcripts now to prove you were enrolled and start thinking of all of those times you were lied to or something you witnessed by administration or teachers that was fraud (like making up attendance records, etc).
for this quarter that ended this next week and hopefully graduate out the students before they close
Modany should invite the grads over to his place for a barbeque & dancing
Some of you do not understand what teach out means, it means that another school agrees to take over itt students and teach the remainder of the students program. They will not be at Itt. The students can go to the new school, but usually the programs are not even close to being the same. If a student had one quarter left at Itt, at the new school, they might have to take additional classes and be in school longer. No Itt, no career services. Itt will post grades for this quarter that ended this next week and hopefully graduate out the students before they close, so at least those Itt students transcript will indicate that they graduated.
HQ has this covered! No worries. Nicole Elam/Bagdad Bob can teach GS 2520 "Professional Communications" and Kevin can teach AC 1220/1320. All for about $1,500 a class. Both are sure to have high engagement rates. Hope they know how to fudge attendance. Fudging attendance is so much easier than adult babysitting during class break/instructor break.
I was taking classes for the RN program horrible cheating allowed by teachers and administrators. Two students were caught with a copy of a final exam in one class and was told she could take the new final drawn up. Then the new final review was given a day before it was to be taken. Lots of people failed. Only once that got to stay where those of the same race like the new program president. Glad its finally closing. Hope i get my loan paid back.
From the fed's announcement Q&A section:
Where can I go to get updates on what’s happening with my school? What’s the most reliable place for information?
Your school should update you directly.
...oh, sure thing & of course the most reliable place for information
http://www.streetinsider.com/Corporate+News/ITT+Educational+Services+%28ESI%29+Shares+Decline+on+Reports+of+Increased+Oversight/11973296.html
Will they teach out and still provide career services for the current students?
...who will do the teaching? Who would stick around? Why-to be told they have too many dropouts & are an ineffective instructor? To be put on corrective action for "low performance"? What is ITT willing to do to keep them on?
"40k students are about to be put out on their asses " Maybe you don't get it.
With ITT-Tech graduation rate of 30% or so, and maybe half of graduates placed in decent paying jobs at best, 35K students will be saved from crushing loans they can't pay back.
Besides, current students can get tuition refunded if school closes, with part of that 152 million bucks ED is setting aside for them.
Today is the first day of the rest of your lives.
If you are surprised by any of this then you are an idiot. The end of ITT was in the works since the attempted University of Akron, ITT merger. Simply look at EDMC and Brown Mackie... If you were blind sided by this you clearly never did your homework.
It's also not the Obama administrations over reach, it's the direct authority of the DOE. They have this power and always have, ask Corinthian Colleges.
Quit blaming the government for ITT ESI's f---ups. I have been with the company for three years and every time I seen it all I was dissapointed. Everytime I thought they couldn't get any lower, they did.
Given that they have to raise 152 million in thirty days the chancess are small that they will be in business at the end of September. 40k students are about to be put out on their asses by the ED in addition to the hundreds of employees still left who are gonna be out of a job by labor day.
ITT Tech is currently trending on Facebook...let the damage control begins. Yes, tomorrow will be interesting..oh...its also payday, i hope : /
I'm super excited to read what kind of ridiculous statement she is going to make tomorrow. Something about a political unjust witch hunt. Obama administration overreach their boundaries and not understanding due process... She reminds me of Baghdad Bob with all her delusional statements.
No guidance, but my Co workers and I are anticipating significant lay offs soon.
HERE IS THE LETTER
http://www2.ed.gov/documents/press-releases/itt-letter-08252016.pdf
Have been seeing this statement today, in a lot of articles tonight: "Nicole Elam, an ITT spokeswoman, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment."
Those of you working today, or teaching tonight -- any guidance from management yet?
