Thread regarding ITT Educational Services Inc. layoffs

Sure ITT has it's demons, but y'all are delusional if you think most colleges are any different

I've worked at a number of schools over the last 20 years, public and for profit, ITT is far from the worst. Their curriculum is decent, but often poorly taught at some of the campuses. I didn't here anyone complaining when my former employer (a State university) only had an 18% grad rate, kids not learning anything because tenured professors phoned it in, or because the average wage coming out was $22,000 for a fine arts degree.

"Those who graduate from a state college are not laughed out of the room for their degrees. Those who graduate from ITT get laughed out of the room when recruiters see their resume".??? You must be kidding me!!! I did not attend ITT, I attended a small local college, and let me tell you this: A college name does not make a student better, a Degree/Transcript/Job Application is just a piece of paper, it doesn't imply knowledge, or were they mind readers? I guess those recruiters didn't have any formal education, they are probably 'youtubers" like you!!!

A little true. ITT is better than most if not actually all the for profits. Public universities have crap courses and their own version of retaining students that shouldn't be there. The difference? ITT costs way too much, promises way too much, and graduates way too many unqualified students, way more than the public universities.

The career services assistance at a for-profit school like ITT Tech is a thousand times better than at a university level

---ITT can have a pretty decent career services section & some good connections for students. Our ITT grads (in certain program) were able to get good paying jobs at solid companies (not mom and pop companies). I have seen very good career services at universities too, some have very substantial resources. I suppose there are certain schools that lack much in the career services area.

The career services assistance at a for-profit school like ITT Tech is a thousand times better than at a university level. The students get actual help networking with employers and have their resumes submitted directly to HR managers and recruiters for them from career services. I graduated from a state school and didn't even know career services existed. For-profit schools have that department built into the curriculum so students definitely know who they are and how to get help.

Here is where you go wrong. Those who graduate from a state college are not laughed out of the room for their degrees. Those who graduate from ITT get laughed out of the room when recruiters see their resume.

Also, state colleges offer a real campus atmosphere, internship/job opportunities and support these for profits don't.
