Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Why would Devon not hire people who were laid off as contract labor?

Devon is hiring contract labor in my old dept, but say they cannot hire me back as a contractor.

Anyone seen or heard of this happening?

Inspector, contractor, consultants, temps, does that clear things up for you?

Devon cut full time employees and replaced them with temps, inspectors , contractors, whatever you want to call them.

I have it from a good source that Devon is one of the worst company's to work for, unless you are an inspector.

It is sad that Devon would lay off decent employees and keep/hire inspectors to take their place.

What attribute is that?

I have it from a good source that Devon will not hire back any laid off folks until at least a year has elapsed from their severance date. It's not in writing anywhere.

Devon will not hire anyone they laid off because their core values will not allow that.

They believe in honesty and trustworthiness , do you really believe that Devon, the God of all that exists, would ever admit that they made some poor choices and let some valuable employees go? They would rather hire contractors. Do you really believe that a contractor has Devons best interest at heart?

Put 'HB1 Visa' behind your name and they will snatch you right up. I was a contractor that worked on a small team with two other people (an employee and an HB1 Visa contractor from India). Guess which one was let go.

Don't know about Devon, but sometimes the legal advisors make it difficult to rehire former staff and contractors. They take a twisted/paranoid position against the practice. In any case, good luck to you.

As to the snarky commentors: why the lack of compassion? Do you think you are immune to future layoffs? If you do you are wrong. In this low price environment it doesn't matter how smart you are, how hard you work or how well you are liked. If you're in the wrong place at the wrong time you will get cut. Plenty more chances for that are around the corner as asset sales and consolidations accelerate. Careful with the Karma, you may soon find yourself being mocked.

Move on, man. Devon let you go and now you're begging them to pick you back up as a contractor. That's sad.

They should I know a lot of companies that do it. It's a win for company because they don't have to pay benefits or training

Is that you John Richels?

Listen John you did not meet expectations in any of your performance assessments so we really have no place for you at this time. You might contact the circus and see if there are any clown positions available but I want to warn you that elephant riding is frowned upon nowadays and your SAP tricks are sort of overdone.
