Staples will keep the dumbest people because they won't figure out there's no future.
Only smart people will get laid off because Staples management expects them to leave anyway.

exactly!
As already noted, some, who are clearly NOT dumb, just don't have a fear based on job loss. They have enough F*ck You Money or financial wherewithal to stay and watch and even s--- on the drying up teat as long as they can because it FEELS SO GOOD TO SCREW THEM.... I applaud you all. If you don't need the money taking it anyway is great revenge....

Im not looking to get back at anyone. I don't care about UI. Or the severance. I'll take it if I have to, I don't mind working. I like the feeling of doing my part. I enjoy seeing the end results in hard, work. I know it's not with this company anymore. This company is just scavenging to get by. I am more than that. It's an embarrassment now to have worked for this company. It's out there the information is out there everybody knows what this company is made of and it's nothing good. It's all back stabbing now. Everyone worries if they are the next one out the door. What a horrible thing to live through. I'm better than that and I will find what I'm looking for, I know it's not with staples.
You're right, except they will avoid the layoff if possible and fire for cause (for BS reasons) to save money on severance and have a better chance avoiding UI.
If you get fired, still apply for UI, even if your state is strict against those fired for cause. UI administrators in most states have seen the scams Staples plays. Staples fought like hell to try to deny me UI benefits, but the administrator read off my PIP and allowed me to explain every point I supposedly failed at to be placed on the PIP. Between having to cover the SM's department constantly (while he sat in the office), being on register 4-5 hours a day and having no staff in Office Supplies there was no way to get tasking done. The DM tried to challenge my points, but the UI admin told her to be quiet, he had heard the same exact things from many other Staples managers. In the end, I was awarded benefits, it just took an extra 3 weeks.
