Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

Totally agree with the lack of professionalism and empathy practised by HR. When I was made redundant (from EDS just as HP were taking over) some 20 y.o. HR smart arse handled my exit. If I wasn't so eager to get my redundancy payout I would have punched this kids lights out.

What I would urge everyone who reads this is to immediately devise a contingency plan for when you get the tap on the shoulder. It will take a lot of pressure off you and you will be happier. Work out what your redundancy payments equate to in hand and then you can work out how long can you keep going before your next job (if you need to stay in the workforce). Worst case scenario. Staying real will keep you sane and not dropping into the black hole of depression. There is light after the storm.

I thought the July 11th mass layoffs were a big fiasco... Weren't they, "Anti-Troll" guy? I'm really sorry for your layoff, @5bot. There was a guy around here saying that the July 11th layoffs were simply a hoax created by a troll...

I got laid off on July 11th. I also thought if anything I would go down with the ship and was devestated after almost 15 years of service. Although I don't have a job just yet I'm actually relieved and can now see there is life after EDS/HPE and so many better days to be had and looking forward to less stress and stupidity in my life..

I feel lucky in that I was given two weeks notice of getting laid off. We had some groups that only found out they were being let go when their building entry badge no longer worked! A few years back we had a whole group (that sat in the same section) who found out they were being let go when they arrived and found "CAUTION" tape around their cubicles. Once everyone arrived they had 15 minutes to clean out their desks!

Yes, you know it can happen any time... but it's not the same thinking that it might happen to you and when it actually happens. It's always a traumatic experience, no matter how prepared you think you are.

I am sorry to hear about any of us losing our jobs, but I don't think any of us can claim to be "shocked" or say it "came without a warning" when thousands of our colleagues have been WFR'd in recent months with many more layoffs coming up. We should all try to be ready with an alternative plan.

That is one of the better ones. I had a coworker that got laid off before me that was asked to drive 5 hours to Houston for a legitimate sounding reason where in actuality our boss ended up laying her off. Fortunately we had a reorg before I got laid off and our boss drove to us instead of the other way around.

There's no way to handle a layoff communication appropriately, but HR in general at HP/HPE has an incredible ability to handle it in the worst possible way. I was laid off in April, 2015, and I was notified the last Friday of the month through an ad hoc meeting request with the subject "1:1" and no content in the invite. When I went into the conference room at 3:00 PM, it was not a "one-on-one", but a layoff communication meeting including my then-boss, and two HR gals. Needless to say, that was incredibly shocking, as I was the only one from my team, and I didn't see it coming. It took me 4 months to land another job (I had to relocate to another State), and I'm on much greener pastures nowadays (working for the aerospace Industry, instead of IT). You will be fine. i know you'll go through hell in the next upcoming weeks, but believe me... You will be much better soon.
