Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Still Looking For Work

Five long months have gone by and I'm still looking for work in an energy related capacity. You can't help but feel like a failure as a result of getting laid off. Even though many other great people were let go right alongside you it's still tough. The daily rejection emails from companies you've applied to only throw more salt in the wounds. I've been applying to anything remotely related without regard to geographic location.

I'm keeping my grind going, hopefully in a year or two I'll look back and be proud that I pushed through this hard time.

All you can control is that you apply for the interviews and how well together your resume is set up. Outside of that it is out of your hands, all you can do is keep applying. I was not in the energy business but was laid off from my job and luckily I found another within a few months. But a few years back I was in same boat just kept getting rejected by the sorry but no thanks emails, but just keep pushing and you will find something. Also if you are applying to jobs outside of Oklahoma you may want to change your address to the city in which you are applying. I don't think many companies these days are wanting to pay moving expenses especially for a new employee who has yet to put in his/her time.

You are more than what you do for a living. Remember that. Your skills and ability to work with others are transferable to more than just the oil and gas industry. You are not alone..i am in the same fix, getting ready to take a job earning 60% what i was. At a lot less stress. My family is glad to have me around more often! Im home for dinner.

I feel the opposite. I don't miss Devon and their junior league management. I love my new job. Since I'm not management and never was, I'm now protected from the politics and no longer have to walk on eggshells and constantly play defense, like I had to at Devon. Devon use to actually be one of the best places to work. By 2014, that all began to change for the worse. The pay, benefits and every other Friday off, are the ONLY things I miss about Devon.

On the subject of job search salt in the wounds....after being laid off from Devon, I had an interview that went extremely well. The signals and vibes were good and I thought I had the job in the bag. Days went by after the interview and they never even had the courtesy just to let me know that I didn't get the job. I called and emailed the recruiter who arranged the interview and they wouldn't even respond to my emails or return my phone calls. I kept going over and over in my mind, what did I say or do wrong? I thought the interview had gone so well. By the grace of God, a few weeks later, I got an interview for the job I have now and my life is back on track, without the stress I had at Devon. My prayers to those looking for work.

Same here. I have been looking, and doing odd jobs. The thing that makes me feel worse is the fact that they kept contractors and have hired more contractors to fill our shoes. It makes one wonder what the long term goal is. Sadly enough, I miss my job and the men and women that I worked with, I would go back in an instant.

I thought I found something that was going to be a good move, but it has turned out horrible. I hate this new place and the management is junior league. I miss my Devon Days and I'm still hoping for something good to come my way. I have a paycheck but it is miserable work.

I feel your pain, trying to keep my head up and getting things fixed around the house. Hoping things get better at least by first of year. I remind myself too that a lot of good people were let go and happy with a severance. Some companies didn't give employees anything when they were laid off.

Good luck!
