With the failure of so many new technology nodes in my opinion it's very possible the Boise Site will be closing soon. If it does that's going to s--- royal for the Boise area having such a huge drop in the economy.
Anyone that works in SXP (3d Xpoint) knows that outside of the Boise facility they can't even come close to getting it to function. Don't drink the cool aid that send out in the site wide congrats emails, SXP is in serious trouble. The hybrid memory cube, although a novel idea, likely won't ever make it to market as the firmware alone is a nightmare.
They've canceled MRAM as well as 4-5 other EM technology nodes too. It wouldn't surprise me if Micron sold off in pieces in the near future. Don't forget the patent infringement law suit Harvard filed last month. What's funny is I know the engineers that stole the intellectual property. They literally had hit a road block, found the Harvard article, and straight up copied it.
They didn't accidentally come up with the idea that happened to be similar, it was a straight up copy of the technique. The sad thing is aside from Sundau's team most of the people there NEVER come up with novel idea's, they just come up with ways of tweaking what someone else came up with.
As for Sundau, he sometimes comes up with novel stuff on his own but he's the worst patent thief in the company stealing IP out from under engineers noses all the time. Here is to kicking myself for not selling my options last year when the stock was at $36. Maybe we will get a temporary bump from the lay offs we can take advantage of.
