We lost a small number of people from my group in Boise today. The took big paychecks but were weak contributors at best. I was surprised that other groups lost a whole bunch of very technical/competent engineers. None of the good o'l boys got cut... no surprise there. The big bosses seem to have the most buddies in sweetheart director positions ...with one or two reports and nothing to do.

Hopefully the new CEO will look into all the unnecessary excess there is throughout the company. Here in Boise there are so many people that are here just because they have been here forever. I have seen a constant perpetuation of keeping people just because they have been here forever. I have heard the "we can't let her go, she has been here a long time" excuse for poor employees time after time. Anyone who works here knows that long time employees have often been able to survive layoffs over the years, so it's a numbers game ; not a good employee so he stays game. Good employees are laid off all the time and often replaced with inferior people. To the new CEO: please get rid of the dead weight!
Until upper management experiences an"clean out" nothing will change. They need to rid themselves of the same stale thinking management has had for years and years. There is so much forward thinking incredibly smart people here that are stifled by old school thinking it's a shame. These progressive thinkers should be calling the shots, not some old dolt that has done the same sh..t the same way for years. Ever wonder why the same difficult co workers remain employed year after year? Old timers look out for each other and themselves.
There are a lot of people at Micron taking big pay checks that don't produce much in many depts. There is such an old Idaho practice of the good old boy philosophy in this company, many people fight very hard to keep that in place. Things are changing and it won't be long before you don't recognize this place. Everything especially in Idaho will change over the next few years so be perpared.
