Adjunct pay going up at ITT

About 6-7 years ago an adjunct was paid about $1500 per class, (probably within100 bucks). Was wondering if it had gone up substantially since then (since ITT is supposedly trying to cut costs). Wouldn't be surprised to see it go lower. I remember some classes having the hours extended, but think the pay was the same regardless of the class.

Base pay at our campus for adjuncts is $1200 per class with a master's, $1500 with a doctorate. It has actually gone down, not up, since I started here.

If they don't get paid more now, there is usually plenty of pizza & cake to eat. Sometimes new instructors have to wait 5+ weeks before getting paid.

I seem to remember there were faculty in-service/training meetings near the end of each term (usually at some inconvenient time like the wed afternoon before thanksgiving), but only full time faculty were required to attend, (since ITT wouldn't pay for adjuncts to go). Now that there are essentially no full-time faculty, I wonder if they still have the meetings? I think they are held as part of maintaining academic accreditation.

Thinking of becoming an adjunct at ITT-Tech? Maybe good for some teaching experience, but mostly as example of how a college should not be run!

Warning -- pay is lousy, and your health may suffer. No health benefits of course, unless you become a full time instructor -- but you need to teach 6 classes per quarter to get that.

Myself and a colleague stopped working at ITT-Tech after Spring quarter. We compared notes today. We are happier in our new jobs, sleep better at night, no longer have anger management issues! Priceless!

Pay going up? Ha ha. My "raises" barely keep up with inflation.

Started out at $1600 a class 6 years ago, with bonus of $400 per class if I met engagement metrics. Classes were 3 hours long.

Then the "bonus" went away, under the excuse that it was against regulations.

Soon classes became half-hour longer, for no additional pay. My supervisor put me down when I inquired about that. Red flag!

But we started getting an annual "raise." So, 6 years later, the pay is now a whopping $1780 per class. My "raise" this past year was $40 per class. My engagement rate and surveys are great, but lets face it, ITT-Tech management doesn't give a crap about faculty.

Lab classes are supposed to be 5 hours long, for 4.5 credits. Community colleges in my area pay $4200 for 5 credit class.

They still try to pay $1500 to new adjuncts (of which there are many since lots of people leave). Some get $1500-$1600. Capable academics can often get more elsewhere - and do.

Of course at some campuses they seem to expect the academic staff to simply stamp students present and hand them an "A" so if you are OK with that it might seem like a good deal. Those of us who believe in academic standards tend to leave!
