Thread regarding FMC Technologies Inc. layoffs

OK now...

After seeing some of the comments here I must say that most of the things that's been said are true.

First of all, this company is not that bad of a place to work and there are a lot of good hardworking people in here.

However, it's obvious that they practice nepotism in this workplace although I see nothing wrong with it.

But in doing so, they tend to hire people who are not " so called" qualified for a position and they base their hiring judgement just because somebody is related to someone in the company- and that's pretty crappy in my opinion.

And I think this is where the "clique" starts. Take for instance one of the high up managers on one of the depts here has this "assistant" and this person does nothing but read newspaper or magazine or maybe order some food when there is a meeting but that is it.

In fact this said assistant "resigned" Ifrom the job to spend summer with their child but the position was NEVER posted for an opening because the boss "saved" it for when this person came back and work for the company again after resigning.

So basically, this assistant resigned for the summer and then came back when the school started back up. That is BS to me. How can someone allowed to do that?! And why would HR even approved it? This is where the grey area in this company's ethics. If they do like you, I guess you're safe otherwise you're S.O.L. Is sad to see a good company that is being run by people who exploit their privileges.

I hope the administration will re-structure things that need to be fixed. Just my two cents of thoughts.

It's all who you know or who you blow. There is so much favoritism, look the other way for friends/family, promote your friends girlfriend, brother, cousin, regardless of qualifications. Not sure how they can lay someone off by saying their position has been eliminated when several more people in the same position are still there. If it's not performance based, then it is a popularity contest. Not a good way to run a company. Unless your goal is to run it into the ground, which is what I've seen happen over the last 5 years.

Your not alone Houston. Has gone on in Erie for years. You have to say to yourself "That's just the way it is" or leave work depressed every day. Doesn't make it right but "Some things will never change".

So sad to hear and realize this goes on all over the place in this company!

Had an admin where I was let go, that came in late every morning, took long lunches every day, forged signatures, logged on to other people's work accounts (and changed thier settings w/out telling them), played on social media like it was her actual job (while expecting others to do her job for her), took credit for others work and claimed as much as 20 hrs a week in OT-when she rarely worked 40 hours!

When brought to managements attention, nothing was done-outside of a fake HR investigation.

She still works for FMC to this day, just disgusting to see when so many good workers are being let go.

She's also a part of the friends and family 'clique', that is going on there regionally! Interesting also, that there are certain people with LARGE salaries still hanging on, after they've all but dismantled certain positions within the company.

Good luck to the hard working, deserving people left in the company!

It's called unfairness and abuse of power and taking advantage of those work for a living. This is what destroys the company spirit. If you expect anything in corporate America to be fair then your going to be really disappointed every day you show up for work. Until things change my advice is just take the money and benefits you can get for yourself until they tell you to leave.

I agree 100% when you talked about the "clique" over in S07 there is a strong supervisor/management/ HR ring going on. Once your in that ring your untouchable. To the point where you can forge someone's innitials and still not get fired or suspended. Must be nice
