A phone call? Do they call you into the office? What's the process and how intimidating is it?

Your manager calls you into a room with another manager and someone from HR. They sit you down and let you know that your position is being eliminated and that you're receiving a severance package. You can basically count on about a week per year of service and the minimum is 4 weeks. Benefits expire at the end of the month you're let go. HR then gives you the info on your severance package, what happens to your benefits, gives you a contact list and some info on outplacement services you get and I think EAP as well. I was let go today and the chick from HR who was there did a good job - I could tell it wasn't pleasant for her or my manager but they did as good of a job as I guess anyone would in that situation. Look - times suck in oil & gas right now but I'd go back to FMC in a second if they called me back. Nothing but good people there for the most part.

Maybe it is their 1st job or maybe they are so amazing that they have never been laid off. This is not common knowledge unless it's something you have been thru before. REALLY? You must have a ton of experience being laid off, that is not a good thing! Your the DA.
