Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

here we go again

I am off to another "red carpet" event to write blank checks to URM candidates with the department big guns looking over my shoulder. Supreme Leader BK may not be able to fly the mission accomplished banner next CES but wants to show that we will beat the 2020 target. Check JF NEO rooms every Monday to see our great progress.

Of course, headcount and expenses need to trend lower so we will continue making "adjustments" too.

Feels like I am a bureaucrat in a third world country. Crooked leader puts up a great social agenda to cover up. Meanwhile his hired General goes about the hatchet job. This ends with the General Porky turning on his boss and taking over the helm. The once great nation rots away in irrecoverable decline.

Where and/or how can I apply to such events? I am an Indian female who would love to work at Intel.

My manager told me that we 'had' to hire the (URM) intern we had last summer. She was OK but not stellar. Apparently the intern program is another 'red carpet' event where if you've made it as far as the internship, it is virtually assured you'll have an offer. This in the face of half the experienced people on the team lost to VSP or ERP. It's all about getting in new blood, hopefully URMs. Seems to just be the reality these days.

Affirmative action; being particular about who you say 'yes' to is different than being particular about who you say 'no' to. Quite convenient for those that understand De Morgan's laws.

And how is all this legal, if they have practically excluded non URM candidates from competing for the same jobs? Or, not extending the same hiring opportunity to non URM people.

At the red carpet events hiring managers are expected to make same day offers based on about an hour of interviewing candidates who are pre screened by HR. Hiring managers are pushed very hard by the higher ups who have their focal riding on meeting diversity goals. Months of ramp time is expected but there have still been several retention failures where the new hires could just not perform.

By blank checks, did you mean "job offers"?

"kind of like how Yahoo hired their CEO."

Exactly - the story became about her...and not the sorry state of Yahoo! or the boneheaded acquisitions that she made.

The one thing keeping the Intel stock afloat is the dividend. How would splitting up affect that?

Company is being set up for a split.

With x86 volume dropping, ARM 10nm announcement, desperate need for more volume and foundry means the company is going to be divided.

Murthy will run the product group and Diane the server

Stacy will run TMG and continue to layoff another 20k to make them competitive with TSCM

Fun time at the end of Moore's Law and there is nobody with any clue to silicon running the show there, simply frightening nobody there that knows the real situation with technology

"However if you heard her in the bum this was great that was great and everything was fantastic and there was no problem anywhere. Total rah rah cheering without acknowledging any issues that were there to see. "

That's a feature and not a bug if you're Intel trying to peddle a "we're on the cusp of great things" vision.

She's not up to the job. Nor is BK or Murthy. Probably few people on Earth are!

Diane bryant succeeding bk will be a cherry on the s***pie. Attended few of her bums in 2006. This was the year when amd was eating intels lunch; had exec slips; and intel was going through set actions laying off 18k or so the stock was in doldrums. However if you heard her in the bum this was great that was great and everything was fantastic and there was no problem anywhere. Total rah rah cheering without acknowledging any issues that were there to see. Never attended any of her talks again. With leaders like that you dont need competition to send you packing

Diane as CEO diverts attention from all of Intel's other problems. The story becomes about the female CEO and not the end of Moore's Law, massive layoffs (we're rebuilding!), failing to accomplish diversity goals (now we will because a woman's at the helm), flat revenues, etc. It's turning the page.

Diane Bryant can keep Murthy as the #2 / hatchet man and Stacey as the bean counter / head of sales. And BK can bow out as gracefully as possible having "set Intel on the course for the future." As the cherry on top, he gets a massive golden parachute and the extra satisfaction that the 1st female CEO of Intel isn't his rival Rene James.

Of course, the slow motion train-wreck that is Intel will continue but the press will eat this up!

@1bn - good point - if you look at Intel's exec transition options, who do they really have? Smith could put on a good face and they are grooming him by giving him Sales. Bryant (Diane, not Andy) is the only other choice.

BK and General Porky had better watch their backs as the Board could very easily decide that they need to install a female CEO to paper over missing the numbers on URM and female hiring.

Thus the ascendancy of Diane Bryant. And continued decline of Intel. But look: a major tech company has a female CEO! And women and URMs will flock to work there!

Dumber things have happened...

Intel hires PhD, white Americans just don't want to study and work hard to get ahead. Six figure salaries now go to foreigner who will make America great again!
