Unemployment Eligibility in California

Not LR-ed but wanted to know - if you are cut, can you get Unemployment benefits - I am asking because of the severance payment as I think that severance will render you ineligible for unemployment - not sure how EDD looks at this but if you have info please chime in from the Cisco perspective.

AFAIK from previous events, you aren't eligible for unemployment until your effective payout has been exhausted. Sorry! And, always check with the government office, you never really know until you ask.

Your severance package in California does not affect your unemployment benefits, but you must report your severance package on those EDD forms. I went through a layoff in a different company here in California and had a 5 months severance. I got 450 a week.

If your severance is a lump sum, you'll get the benefits when in theory the severance equals the income you would have received. So if your severance equals 12 weeks pay, after 12 weeks you can get Unemployment Insurance.

But submit your unemployment claim in right away. And always keep your paper work up even if you havent received the benefits yet.

You are eligible but you will have to share your severance amount. Unemployment is maybe 300 a week

Unemployment is $450/week or $1800/month in California for 6 months and then it runs out.

So would that be September 19? or October 19th? They keep you in Cisco until September 19th, but they give that "In Lieu Of" payment too... ??

you are eligible for unemployment as soon as you are off of the payroll. Severance does not impact this.
