Thread regarding Sears layoffs

"System update" 8/18/2016

System update? Are you serious? This an update that took down the debit card system, Sears card payments, store coupons, layaway system, all returns even with a receipt, inventory look ups, online ordering, and the SYW points system. System updates are usually done overnight, not during the business day. I just watched people leave carts of merchandise at a Sears store over cash only at the register...and several had a $10 offer that could not be used because of the system update (management was instructed not to make good for any coupons or offers that were unaccessible due to the "update.") No one could pay their layaways either. This system update is resulting in millions in lost sales. I guess this is what happens when a company does not have control over their own IT offshore departments that are actually wholly-owned subsidiaries located in India and Israel.

Just called my local Sears store and they said that their systems were back up and functioning.

Very funny, I agree with everyone's remark. The scary thing is I have been through this mess before and I wish everyone good luck that this is still not going on tomorrow.

FYI: The RMU's are at least 16 years old if not older so be patient with the poor dear. The RMU's need to be put to sleep, as in trash the piece of junk?

Like the registers they need to go into the trash or the register accidentally has a "hardware" problem as in an employee knocks it off the counter and it breaks.

In our Kmart store, we opened two hours late because nothing was working. They couldn't even access email or go into on hand inquiry in the RMU. Just another day working for the highly technical "world's greatest integrated retailer". Give me a break.

Basically only cash or check. Did you make sure to do a handwritten sign for the front door to CYA so customers are warned before they come in?

Is this effecting Sears Canada/Mexico with the system issue? Or is it just effecting the USA stores?

Kmart, Eastern region here. Stores in my district cannot access SYW, the coupon system, or process any card transactions. Returns with a receipt are being done as "no receipt" returns, as per DM, because the member accounts can't be accessed. No layaway payments can be accepted. Members are not happy with us. The "customer experience", whatever we could give them, is destroyed.

I wonder how many millions of dollars in lost sales this issue will cost them? I expect this will accelerate the bankruptcy filing date.

Members cannot log into their accounts to place orders. Customer service is telling them to try again after 1 A.M. Central Time.

Ouch, I understand why the SHOS stores are effected even though they were spun out of SHC, because they remain on SHC register systems/IT systems.

How is it effecting the websites? That should be a different system?

I'm inside of a Sears in CA. It is CASH ONLY today and that is if the register is actually working.
