I expect that the next layoffs will involve SSAs and Faculty Chairs because of the way their responsibilities are being pooled together. An SSA no longer has a portfolio of students and any SSA anywhere can take care of any caller, which means that any individual SSA is now expendable.
It's the same with the Chairs. Now appeals and permits are going into a queue where any available chair can handle them. They're no longer supporting just their own campus or programs. Also Visiting Professors will be reporting to some Home Office entity, so that responsibility is gone. Student Centric Scheduling is handling faculty assignments, so that responsibility is gone too. So the chair's role has diminished to the point where we could survive with fewer of them.
The main reason I'm not sure of this prediction is because it makes sense. As we all know, this is seldom the case with any Home Office decision these days.
