Even though there are many many idle Transco operators, unless you're removing VPs, directors, and managers - especially those with very few direct reports, you're just spinning your wheels. There's no real money to be saved at the operator/technician level compared to leadership. And leadership is where the problem resides. You could eliminate 20% of leadership (the correct 20%), and if done correctly, you would see no effect other than efficiency gains. But Williams will probably hire Bain again for some new initiative and end up losing the 20% it absolutely can't afford to lose.

William great company if dont merger layoff have to come they have to many people at these compressor station at transco some these plants dont run paying people to do nothing upper mangerment dont know whats happen
Rumor was layoffs would be worse without the merger than with, though that was before ETE said they would close down the Tulsa office. Putting everything on hold until the merger was decided slowed a lot of things down. Wouldn't surprise me if they sold off some assets to generate cash too.
Soon - very soon. Watch the the "elite" get in line (shoulder to shoulder) with the "commoner's" . The shareholders will want due punishment for this ludicrous fiasco... and rightly so.
