With all this talk in Sinergy about Citrix + MS around azure. We have to admit this is the obvious move for MS later buy us. This same scenario that occurred with Nokia.

Sharefile sold to someone since MS has one drive or take the best features and merge the products.

So buying Citrix is interesting for Microsoft.

Wishful thinking. Microsoft just released its own version of FreeBSD for deployment in its Azure platform. That is, MS just threw the gauntlet and is going to compete directly against Amazon AWS, Oracle Cloud, Rackspace, VMWare, etc. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/06/09/microsoft_freebsd/

I truly don't see how HyperV would displace VmWare during a recession. That's like saying MySQL could replace Oracle under similar circumstances. Companies that can afford throw $$$ at VmWare infrastructure are very resilient in terms of infrastructure. They'll cut 401K contributions and let go of people before yanking infrastructure. Not to mention the enormous infrastructure VMWare has built for vm management (aaaand the equally enormous 3rd party ecosystem that exists around VMWare products.) Sorry, but this sounds like wishful thinking.
The only thing of value to Microsoft from Citrix is NetScaler. For every other item in Citrix's portfolio, there's already a Microsoft product that's leading...or "good enough" because its included in Windows Server from a licensing perspective (no cost to large enterprise/EA customers):
XenServer -> HyperV
XenApp -> Microsoft RDS
XenDesktop -> Who cares...VDI is dead
ShareFile -> OneDrive (good enough)
XenMobile -> InTune
Worx Apps -> Native Office Apps for iOS and other platforms
NetScaler -> really nothing.
So the only reason I see Microsoft buying Citrix is to go after F5, and to be honest, the ADC market is just too small for Microsoft to care about. And every recession that comes along is a chance for firms to displace Vmware with HyperV. So its a long slow drought for Citrix sadly.
