"Shell said it expects net job losses in 2016 to be lower than 5,000 due to recruitment in IT and at the graduate level"
So We layoff 10,000 people in 2016 and hire 5,000 people and claim we only had 5,000 job losses.

Darth Van Beurden has selected a North American target. The latest Shell Death Star has been commissioned & is maneuvering into orbit above Target acquired.

Steel yourself & join the Rebel Alliance, I'd rather die on my two feet than live on my knees !
Houston maybe but OSS definitely! Especially all the blood sucking expats bringing so called expertise - ha. Only expertise they have is wasting company money and destroying their host country's resources. And equally the American managers who enable this behavior in the hope of being rewarded by their Dutch overlords.
folks in India up to speed? If they're not up to speed yet, they never will be.
Several contracting companies have told me Shell has already given them postings to fill for 6 Month-12 month contract jobs. One of the contractors told me that the Shell account manager said Shell HR wants to reduce costs by getting rid of employees and then replacing them with contractors until they can get the folks in the INDIA hub up to speed. Open your eyes folks the Leadership in many areas are bean counters.
Shell OSS security guards in the hall discussing the layoffs."These people are spoiled anyway yada yada" "They get on my last nerve " A sad lot
This is too funny, pick up the pieces and move on.
What we should do is start some form of company ourselves maybe not in oil and gas but hey
Franchises, apartment complexes, stock trading, we have the expertise why not use what we have anyone interested, or have any other ideas.

So...finally the masses are waking from their loooong opioid slumber! I have been watching this site for a while - the complacency is mind boggling. Yes you are expendable. Yes it can happen to you. And yes you will survive! For those who have only known mother Shell it's hard to imagine life outside the womb. Time to face the real world boys and girls (oops there are very of the latter left I know). Is that no good Conway still around? What about Henry? Poort? ( with the fake American accent!! Who does he think he is fooling!! Only the Dutch). Stockwell? Hamilton? Bogart? Mismanaged the whole company.

Heard that people supposed to work on Franklin petrochem are getting axed. does this mean project is nixed?
The comment about the purge is exactly correct
The problem is that it is hard for the value of the employee to keep up with the increasing cost (salary, retirement benefit, pension, health care) of the employee. Its cheaper just to hire a young inexperienced new grad to replace them.
This is a purge, they are bringing in kids to replace the 40+ crowd. They want a fresh new group of impressionable, unsuspecting people to take advantage of and work to the bone. They will run these young people like race horses into the ground and by the time they hit 35-40 right as they wake up, they will turn them out on the streets. Its just the business model. They did the same to us. By the time you hit middle age you've become seasoned, you aren't blinded by pride anymore and you catch on to how the system works. Once you learn the carnival games are rigged you never view the carnival with the same enthusiasm. Once the carnies notice you lost the sparkle in your eyes they toss you out into the parking lot.
As for the job cuts, they will just keep cutting away, arranging chairs, cutting more here and there. Right now there is a huge change taking place across all the oil and gas industry. Things haven't shaken out yet. Browse these boards and you'll see, not one company will be the same at the end of this and we aren't anywhere near the end yet.
One article stresses the "North Sea workforce" and the 1700 jobs remaining in Scotland, No distinction/mention of FTE & contractor split, these 2200 all likely staff. I ll guess contractor layoffs continue to only be reported by their co. mgmt and lower the actual RDS job losses. 12200 sounds civil compared to 22000+-. Lower for longer and all, mate.
Check the services co. Layoff threads here or fuelfix.com Good luck to all.
The remaining job losses will be in US and Canada?
