Thread regarding Anadarko Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Micromanagers

Anadarko has quite a few incompetent micromanagers. Often it’s a need for control that stems from INSECURITY: lack of confidence, workplace instability, pressure to produce individually, deep-seated psychological issues and problems at home.

For those micro-managers left wanting to be involved in every detail, here is the result of your management practice and a tip:

"All you end up doing is slowing things down. You hire smart people around you for a reason. You hire them to be smart and TRUST them to do their job,"

It seems that the advisors/managers that drive the projects, are promoted because they do good work and get results. Upper management doesn't really care about the workers under them or how they are treated although they were tasked to get rid of all the negative, nasty, hateful people and keep the folks who are flexible and decent to work with. That didn't exactly happen, it's still a very political atmosphere, like any BIG company. It's best to do your best to get along with everyone but it would be nice to tell one of the micro-managers and a couple of advisors to go * themselves! Interesting times in the industry, let's hope the worst is over and we will see oil prices increase soon. $50 oil Ain't Bad!

Well I was a manager and was laid off and performed at a high level with years of experiance and what I saw during the layoffs and the people I know that where layed off Anadarko did not do there homework very well . So what Anadarko gets now it's what they deserve . I did receive a job very good right after my layoff . I realized core values and hard work and having excellent reviews for years and caring that the company made a profit did not matter. It's about who you are blowing . I hope you all get that .

Leaders are "cultivated"?? I disagree. You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig. You have to have it in you.

I agree, not just there but all companies, these suck assmanagers need to realize it does not take all that to get a job done. After all how can you become this great manager, ie just what the company needs and you are in bankruptcy up to your balls. When does this madness stop. America has gone to hell with these silly managers, that lack common sense.

After all you can profit and save a company millions, cut budgets, but you cannot budget your own bills.

WTF REALLY!

Moreover you can run a 40,000,000 budget but your to dumb to start your own company.

The higher ups are so out of touch with their employees. They only promote those who are loud, obnoxious, buddies buddies, with no knowledge of the group or technical background to do the jobs! WTF is going on with this company!? Upper managements need to stop getting bj's at the office and fire these crooks! Do your job!

This is true for any large companies. Leaders are not grown on trees, but cultivated over a long period of time. A lot of the managers you talk about are very good workers and need to stay at APC. I have seen the same manager run off many good people, but they just leave him managing. The fact is he is a great project driver, but has no clue how to get people to follow him. Those type managers don't need to be fired, but they need to be put in a role that does not bring everyone else down. It is up to APC upper management to listen to the staff, and see the results of the manager's ability to lead. Not everyone can lead people, and that is where the micro-managing comes in. If a manager does not show leadership qualities over a long period of time then put them back to staff level, and get the most out of them. In the end everyone will be happy.
