Google should be as big a failure at chip design as Apple.

The only thing protecting x86 designers is a monopoly. It they had to cut their teeth and compete against the rest of the world at TSMC what would intel products look like?

Every company has to play to its strength. The day Google gets into Si business is a good day to short its stock. If fabbing out designs thru a TSMC was such a great business Google would have been in it 5 years ago. We all have our issues with Intel but senslessly hoping for its collapse based on some news feed is plain stupid. It ain't gonna happen.

Google is for certain also testing ARM and other alternatives to Xeon for their servers. Surely FB, Apple, MS and Amazon are also looking at all alternatives. They all want to rid themselves of having to pay huge electricity bills to watch BK and drones as he collects 60% gross margins by selling Xeons for thousands markup.

Competition is always good for the market but horrible for Intel. Sounds like the Board and execs have been taken by surprise.

This is actually good news for the chip design industry as a whole, especially in the U.S.

Not so good for Intel, but even it can gain by leveraging DGC and Altera to provide solutions for companies that can't afford making their own chips.
