25 stores already closed with another 25 or so remaining in 2016.
I again must make a mild dispute with a poster. $3 mil is not the store top line sales volume to concern yourself with. They have ALREADY closed some stores with annual sales above $6 mil. They are closing stores based on an overall analysis of continued profitability, the timing of the lease ending and the likelihood of sales being re-captured within a local market and or .com .... The objective is to get down to 450 stores as topline sales diminish and profit follows. I may not know if they have a further reduction plan after this (I suspect they do) but when I last knew, this was the operating plan. As stores suffer 4%+ topline sales losses, with no end in sight, more stores become targets everyday. Anyone working for this company and within this industry, must know their days are numbered. If you must work in retail look for a product line that does NOT lend itself to easy UPS delivery. Look for a company that provides SERVICE that is technical in nature. look for a company that provides support to those previous two mentioned companies. Examples are Auto oil change or muffler repair, home construction, computer/network repair, plumbing, welding and anything to heavy to be brought by standard UPS Ground like furniture. These will be safe harbors for a while. A GREAT company that is an example is Home Depot. If you have the finances to buy a franchise look into Midas Muffler. Local computer service companies are also a great place for those with networking skills.
I heard they plan to close 50+ stores this year.
Probably be the first of many. I have no doubt that there is already a list of stores to close. If you're under 3 million/year I would worry.
