Thread regarding DeVry Inc. layoffs

DeVry laid off every single registrar, assistant registrar, and registrar coordinators last Wednesday. They also laid off everyone in Academics.

This university is going down.. There will be many more layoffs to come. Devry does not care about their employees at all!! This company enrollment has declined and will continue to decline.

The Arlington, VA campus is paring down to the Keller School of Business and the Chamberlain College of Nursing.

I have been teaching here for almost two years. I also teach at a juco. I can't understand why students drop so much at this place and the other for profit schools when they could go to a cc for 10% of the cost? Are the admissions people that good at selling the place? I think the education is about the same (hey, I teach nursing students at both) but the cost is crazy.

Are there more layoffs and campus closures coming? Does anyone know that for sure? If so, where did you hear it?

Within the next year you will see a huge reduction in the workforce in every aspect of this place. They talk about vigorously fighting the FTC lawsuit. That costs money and years. Maybe they have insurance to cover some of the lawsuits. But in the end the Government normally wins. The stock price will go down to probably less than ten bucks a share. I hope the company has some reserves to pay and settle. Could cost

less than to fight for years. Expect massive change and layoffs and firings. The storm is brewing and the ice is about to break!! Just a matter of one loss in a suit or a horrible couple of bad enrollment periods and then bye bye.

@Concerned Student, many Devry campuses are on the list to be closed. Some of the schools that are closing are listed in the article below. I encourage you to join "Deceived By Devy." ...........................................https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/devry-headed-wrong-direction-dahn-shaulis?trk=mp-author-card

Well, in addition to being sued by DOJ, Devry's shaeholders are now suing Devry! http://www.marketwatch.com/story/shareholder-class-action-filed-against-devry-education-group-inc---dv-2016-05-19

I predict stock prices will fall even lower tomorrow as the news spreads!

I attend Keller on the GI Bill. I am concerned that if Devry goes down, Keller goes down. Will any college even accept transfer credits from Devry / Keller? Also, my campus (Jacksonville) has only one full-time professor, and the best guy in the office, a retired Navy Captain, has been "let go"! He is the one who motivated me to give Keller a try. Additionally, the "campus" president has been "re-assigned" to a regional president position (Orlando). The office already had a skeleton staff, I guess now they will be down to the marrow!

There is no employee development which makes the student experience horrible. All they do is manage by metrics and not substance or quality or accuracy. They don't listen to live calls or do side by sides. A brain shark does not explain real live calls or questions. The only way to turn this place around is to start with more development of the staff. Especially in finance, academics, and finance operations. They monitor less than 5% of all calls or inquiries. Hard to coach and develop talent if leadership is always in meetings and not listening to the calls or reviewing the student accounts. 5 year cohort rate is at 43%??? Doesn't career services call past students and ask if they need help with a job placement or loan advice?!?! TEACH and student care is just smoke and mirrors if leadership doesn't develop it on every call or inquiry. Only contact n call center I've worked for that doesn't have action plans.

@HtDz1fC-1lpe It's not just a feeling. Panic mode is on full display. It is the only explanation for the reckless knee-jerk decisions and perplexing priorities. Luring new students in should not be more important than taking care of the students we have, but management obviously disagrees. Money talks; look where it is going and decide for yourself what it says. It will show you what DeVry cares about and what it doesn't.

The cross training is a joke. And with centralization with a reduced workforce after all the layoffs, it's going to be a disaster. You simply don't have time to care if you make a mistake. How do keep caring about the students when your management has made the environment into something where you don't have the time to care about who actually keeps the school going? This "leadership team" is leading the organization right into the ground. Have they not noticed that all their bright ideas are making students jump ship faster? Does anyone else feel like management is in full blown panic mode?

"We used to be a school that just happened to be a corporation. Now we're a corporation that just happens to be a school. Real universities look to the future and focus on long-term goals, but the only thing we care about is the profitability of the next two quarters." -- Overhead this morning from a 20-year veteran professor

Results come from people. Relationships are built by people. CARE comes from those that are genuine and sincere. Yes, Responsible to shareholders...THIRD! Responsible to students... Always and SECOND. Responsibility to colleagues and their family, health, and loyalty FIRST. Centralization has rarely improved customer service, but it has improved the bottom line. Yes, every university is responsible to improve the academic experience and operate with expenses in mind. People are not an expense. People are the business AND the university. There is not a system in this industry that can recreate CARE, motivation, or coaching in the students journey to graduation. People are why students progress. Faculty, advisors, family members, co-workers, and our community. When a university chooses to sacrifice the only resource that can truly impact the students experience, then the university must live with this decision. And other universities will benefit from these decisions. Because at the end of every decision a student makes, it is always how they are treated and the outcome of the interaction. When an organization chooses not to CARE about their colleagues, then colleagues will stop caring about their customers. And customers/students share this with everyone. Final thought, most organizations tried the centralization method 8 years ago, only to realize it causes more harm than good. The companies with strong leaders reversed this quickly when the customer finally out weighed the street. I thought we were Different, On Purpose? No, we are heartless on purpose. I am sure Herman DeVry would remind everyone that reputation and legacy DO matter. The companies that stand next to their colleagues in the best of times need to invest in the worst of times. Why, loyalty does matter!

Who else is sick and tired of Daniel Hamburger and the executive leadership team? Every time they speak they regurgitate the same five or six talking points almost like they are programmed. So tired of this place and all the politics.
