Thread regarding NXP Semiconductors N.V. layoffs

Chandler Fab being ruined by "Columbus 1492" cost per mask layer..... And the workers will suffer and or get laid off.

Chandler Fab being ruined by "Columbus 1492" cost per mask layer.

We were doing so well as Freescale, now it seems the NXP merger is the worst thing that could happen here at the Chandler fab. Instead of having more money to work with, we have had massive spending cuts to try to achieve the ridiculous 14.92 CPML. This in turn led to low morale, no more hiring of permanent associates, no available parts, not enough overtime coverage, MANAGEMENT BY INTIMIDATION , employees getting written up for any reason, etc.

Well guess what, now "quality " is suffering and guess who they blame......the workers in the fab!!!!

They are looking for any reason to let people go just for cost savings. Rumors are wild from layoffs to "NXP way" of skeleton crews on nights to save on differential pay, reducing technicians to FX temporary employees to avoid paying benefits, etc.

I wonder is NXP trying to shut this fab down so they can move operations to Asia to get their goal of $14.92 per mask layer achievable with cheap labor?

We work so hard just to hear the shaft is coming.

The problem with moral is now that there's a new set of eyes on the fab's operations, the insestuous dealings with contractors, in house back stabbing and constant positioning for personal gain (or to dis-own problems) has started to take it's toll. So many middle managers overseeing the fab has caused a sense of kaos and distrust across the floor.

Young inexperienced managers are shopping eBay for parts and then compelling / blaming Purchasing to find suppliers to match those to save money has caused a mass exodus (of suppliers) from the company and a depleted stockroom, parts that don't conform or are DOA on install.

The hiring of minimum wage workers that have zero Degrees or abilities will in time, make matters even worse when lack of controls about Safety result in accidents.

Bottom line, Freescale reaps what it sows and now that NXP is in control, it's harvest time...

None of this should be a surprise! The Freescale sites were bought by NXP, and NXP will make decisions on how to optimize the assets. Rick Clemmer is a very savvy financial investor, and will carefully weight what makes sense. The fabs won't close, it's too cheap. They can be made cheaper. Going to foundry isn't cheaper, and the NXP non-US fabs are WAY cheaper than the US fabs, but with different capability according to reports.

The question are still "how do you meet the cost targets of the merger?" and "what business do you stay in?" Clemmer's message is appealing: focus on the ubiquitous internet as well as enhancing user experience. If you fit in that, you're good, otherwise, it's going to be an uphill battle. The factories are secondary...that's just how you build what is strategically important.

the rumor I heard at the beginning of the year and again a few weeks ago from 2 different senior managers of the company was that the long term goal was for NXP to go fabless. But that the plan is a 5 to 10 year one. I don't know what is going to go down but the morale in the fab and the business units is the lowest Ive ever seen it - its no surprise he's an ex TI guy. I'm getting seriously sick of corporate america's knob goblers - after all the motorola crap we had to endure - but I have no idea what to do next.
