Plenty of Intel sites are located in run down towns across America. With small numbers will they close these sites like Rio Rancho? In 2017 or 2018?

Based on the lack of steam coming out of the scrubbers on a cold day, this place has a short half-life as an Intel facility. Just waiting for the announcement... Closure ? or Sold to 3rd Party !
Just need to drive around Albuquerque and see the work ethic and education of general population to understand why that site is dead.
Look at the work ethic of the PhD at Sandia is the other spectrum.
Lastly who'd would want to live there and make a life ? No amount of tax breaks is worth it!
Asian company set to lease heavy equipment for Fab11X site. Hopefully Softbank (ARM) set to begin 10nm or 7nm for Intel.

As stated by the previous comment. THE BEST HAVE LEFT THE BUILDING LONG AGO. Those people touring the site are decommissioning experts.
@ocr - Sandoval county owns the land. Intel owns everything they build on the land. Yes. Intel can sell F11X, the building, equipment, etc. RR8 has already been sold. The people in suits touring F11X may very well be potential buyer - buying out entire F11X for another company and keeping the employees for the new company. That is just a guess. But if they can sell it as a whole with equipment, people, etc, they can get most money out of it.
The best have left the building a long time ago.

The management rotates and can add to their resume "Fab/Plant" or "Site" general manager, looks great on paper. Wait till they open their mouth or have to do something technical or be a visionary and you see what they are capable of, LOL.
FAB11X has been a joke for quite some time. Manufacturing very low volumes of chip sets. I'm amazed more employees have not seen the writing on the wall and have left for greener pastures.
@ocr Intel owns the fab in every substantive sense of the word "own." Sale/leaseback transactions are typically financing txns, not sales txns. Think about it ... Sandoval County does not have the political mandate to take a multi-billion dollar risk on a technology project lol.
Intel needs to put this struggling fab out of its misery.
Intel does not own the F11X property, Sandoval county does. I don't see how how Intel can sell what they don't own. Intel also holds Industrial revenue bonds issued by the county. My guess is that they are courting foundry customers, but good luck with that.
I'm guessing they're going to sell it.
The IT group operating out of NM and serving automation throughout the VF just got decimated. Most will be gone on June 24. A few get to relo, and a few get to stay to serve what's left of the site.
It is closing soon. Better start looking or be crying in 6 months to a year. F11X is history, wake up folks.

No they are not... F11X just by the nature of its position will get smaller, however it is being utilized for one of Intels priority projects. Moving it now would not make sense. I am not saying it will not close, just not in December 2016. Planning for the inevitable transition is likely underway they would be foolish not to plan for it starting now.

Plus the plant mgr is moving and Ann Kelleher was touring the site with people in suits recently. So who knows what the truth is and what is really going on?
