Thread regarding Williams Cos. layoffs

Is it confirmed that there will be another round of layoffs? If so, how many are expected to go in this next round?

Sorry, hacking away on iPhone. The only point I was making was, to use common sense and stay out of the garbage. I would avoid hr at all costs if I was still a Williams employee, unless things where really bad. Best of luck.

Your grammar is so bad, one can only guess as to the point you were trying to make.

I had a situation where a fired employee, nice looking, threatened to sue my boss, no big deal he called her missy. I used common sense and pretended not to know what happened, it worked out real well. The employee found another job and I got extra points with my boss, in fact I having lunch with him this week to see he can help me with my job search, great guy he is 72 years old, he would be forced out at a much earlier age at one of this big Megacompanies where they put you out a pasture at young age.

I was a witness to an event in a meeting between a female and male employee. The female filed a complaint with HR and I was called in for statements. Very uncomfortable with HR after I stated they were both at fault for acting like kids. Same HR lady involved in my layoff after I gave several years with the company.

You are correct, unfortunately nobody cares unless their own job is in on the line. All large companies are like that. It is too late unless you work at Williams but my advice to anybody is to to have a career plan for yourself, which includes advancement goals within the company as well as potential promotions to another company. If you don't like it try starting your own business. If you aren't being advanced take a hard look why and make changes.

Some time ago, it was difficult to listen to an IT Leader (related by family marriage to the CIO) explain how the Records and Knowledge Management groups constantly changed solution needs and drove costs through the roof. Always two sides to the story. Maybe a few jobs could have been saved had this been controlled by some discipline.

Mohammed bin saleh al dada of Qatar, said a minimum of $65 a barrel is needed. This is way above the price needed to have huge cost savings for the ETE and Williams merger. Kelsie wake up and approve the merger.

Yes, some leadership in Oklahoma City got two year retention packages BUT IT IS ALL IN WPZ UNITS and if you look at the decline in price, they are going to get LESS THAN HALF of what it was worth. In many cases, leadership will end up with less than what their subordinates got in cash after only one year.

I heave heard it from two sources, though second hand, no mention on specifics. But certainly more layoffs this summer regardless of the ETE mess.

Agreed that the out of control spending should have stopped long ago so layoffs not so hard present day. Have also heard the stories from IM where requirements changed, but more horrible are those clients that don't know what they need to start and take IM groups through constant changes and multiply the costs considerably. Am sure it goes both ways.

Summer layoffs for sure. Expect middle and upper managers this go-round. The managers "protected" this spring will be on the block this time. No helping it. HR will start to enforce "span". Managers with one (or no) direct reports will be sent packing. Expect a like number as last time (but a LOT more cost savings due to higher salaries). Here's some other info...a good portion of ACMP people who came in got a two-year retention bonus that pays sometime this summer. They are already planning their exits once they get their checks -- or praying they will get severed.

Not to mention the huge empire building that was so widespread even after the slow down was occurring.

It is very sad to see the layoffs.

Unfortunately, some departments at Williams (not all) run their projects like an open checkbook with no regard for a budget. An IT group leader was telling me how she would have to manage internal clients that constantly changed requirements causing IT to rebuild the solutions. Given the high clout of the clients, they were not accountable to keep costs in check.

It seems like before layoffs, the CIO should have been looking into these concerns with Business Leaders to see where the fault was and layoff accordingly.

When an employ files a lawsuit against a corportation like Williams they are framed as a bad person. However when a corporation or a CEO files a because they are protecting their rights.

My friends that is why so many voters feel the system is rigged and in the end such a waste

If the merger falls apart that will save the Tulsa office, but OKC is toast either way. A high level exec told me that they hope to accomplish two things when they close the OKC office. 1. eliminate the cost of maintaining unnecessary corporate-like offices 2. some employees, hopefully most, will not be wiling to relocate to Tulsa or Houston, thus reducing the workforce by "voluntary" means

A classic two birds with one stone scenario for uncle Willie

They're gonna have to lay some of us off to pay for the increased headcount in Legal from all the lawsuits we're filing. And if the merger doesn't go through, then we get to do the WMB/WPZ thing all over again. But then at least we get to keep the tallest building in Tulsa to house all of our corporate geniuses.

Rumor was cuts without the merger would be worse than cuts with the merger.

I was laid off from a department where the VP chose to cut not 10%, but upwards of 25%. Now, she'll be forced to cut another 10%. Her 25% cut allowed her to get rid of the people she didn't care for, but the next 10% will cut into some of the the fanboys.

To those of you left at Williams, please do whatever you can to make the merger go through...I sure would enjoy another big ol' check to buy a new Sea-Doo or get a boob job, or both.

IF ETE does not go through word has it another "10%". Loyalty and moral gone. If you got out you in first round take some solace .
