Thread regarding DeVry Inc. layoffs

You know the drill: If enrollments are down-revenue is down, people are out

As a long time employee, you know this happens several times a year. If enrollments are down-revenue is down. The only way to keep the financial ratios from dropping is to cut expenses. Number one expense is employees. I always hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

You just never know when your job will be on the chopping block. Get your education while here, build up your resume, and keep networking. This is happening throughout BOTH the non-profit and for-profit sector.

Even though I did not witness any of the practices for profits are being accused of, because I have worked at two different institutions, I'm looked at as one of the violators. I always held myself and my faculty to high standards who in turn held their students accountable and in most cases successful. Unfortunately, national leadership were out of touch and held small campuses to the same cookie cutter policies which we knew would be dertimental to our campus. We disappointed many students who chose our institution out of thousands they coud have chosen. We let them down by closing our campus and leaving them to complete their degree elsewhere.

If the Pell Grant is cut off, enrollments are toast.

@Hn37bPv-2hhb, it's more than bad decisions, it's criminal behavior.

It is even harder for those of us who have been professional managers with extensive experience. We watch the dumb decisions being made and can't do anything about it. I always wanted to my Intro to Mgt class but I think it might be out of reach for them.

The sad part is that we know all of this, we are seeing things unravel and there is nothing we can do
