Thread regarding Micron Technology Inc. layoffs

Are Micron folsom layoffs next after Intel layoffs?

There is no real technology project work happening at Micron in Folsom. Managers are hinting employees to not work real hard and retire at G7/8 as there will be no promotions. Most of employees are just in sustaining mode of projects. The micron folsom site is the next target especially with the large number of layoffs at Intel.

We have too many people in our area. There is not enough work to keep people busy. Why do we have so many people here? There is no sense to this. Micron wastes so much money. No wonder there is no raise.

It sure is nice to work for a company that promotes football pools, endless talk and playing fantasy football, internet on personal phones that weren't even allowed in the area a couple of years ago concerning football games, homework ,poor attendance year after year by one "upstairs" person and lots and lots of gossip combined with about a 60% decrease in our work. Micron is losing money? What a surprise!

Now that the lay off is over we are back to our normal routine. Our normal routine over the past two years is to come into work; discuss our weekend for 15 to 20 minutes take a 30 minute break ; come back go on the internet, and on and on. A couple of people have some work to do but most do not. a little something here and there but that's it. Football on every Phone and the internet ALL DAY!!! Complaining ,rumors, gossip and we are where we were before the small layoff When will this end? We in our area will never be half as busy as we used to be. When will they get real with us and just move the boise operation to China except R&D. That's the plan so why does it have to be miserable in the process? Be honest with us!

Micron is paying for my college classes. Micron is also paying for me to do my class work at work because our area has so little to do for all the employees we have . So, I guess I can add myself to the gravy train list. Not a bad gig!

Two classes this summer and I have my degree. Class work is pretty much the only"work" I do during the day, but I am glad for it. Getting paid to go to school is is great. Just saying........

I work nights and micron pays me to do all my school work at night. That's the only work I need to do. Not bad at all.

I am using their money to finish my degree and then I am so out of here. I can make so much more money with a lot less uncertainty elsewhere; already have three job offers from other companies. I would encourage everyone to take advantage of this. Micron does not have your best interest at heart like the Appleton days. Those days are gone forever. This is a Chinese company now.

What happened to promotions? The higher end employees go higher, but the lower end employees don't get a shot of moving up. Why?

Most workers in our group are so frustrated they are ready to leave.

Getting emails from the company telling us that we need to watch our spending to save money is laughable. Micron is spending literally millions and millions of dollars on unneeded employees but they are cutting back on travel, and pizza lunches once a year. What a joke!

Coming to work and working is one thing. Coming to work and having to do menial "projects" to try to keep us busy is another. We are down to practically janitorial jobs now!

When you consider that Micron has shipped our jobs overseas it's really not so strange that many Micron sites are experiencing the same work problems that are similar. It is not possible to take away our work and then leave those employees with enough work to stay busy. China is Micron. Everything stateside will be R&D. U.S manufacturing is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. The problem is,the company is trying to pretend everything is the same. They don't think we will notice our workload reduced by 80%.

Thats strange that Boise also has the same work atmosphere as Folsom, no work, no promotions, getting paid to do nothing. But I rather work on something interesting and move on with my career.

Looks like lay offs at the Boise site are coming as well. Very little to do and they continue to pay employees to do nothing, How does that save the company any money?
