I was impacted after being with DeVry for many many years. I just want to remind everyone, its business 101. If you can't make profit, cut cost. DeVry has lost its ways. Management have no clue how to turn this sinking ship afloat. They keep trying new strategy which results in more disaster and ultimately more employee/ workforce cuts.
This is not the end. You will see additional cost cutting measures in the near future.
As a long time employee, you know this happens several times a year. If enrollments are down-revenue is down. The only way to keep the financial ratios from dropping is to cut expenses. Number one expense is employees. I always hope for the best and prepare for the worst. You just never know when your job will be on the chopping block. Get your education while here, build up your resume, and keep networking. This is happening throughout BOTH the non-profit and for-profit sector.
I bet DeVry just loves this forum and exposure. Keep exposing them!
DeVry works hard to program the minds of the deans and managers to operate like puppets. These poor souls only think about their paycheck and in the end this will catch up with them. They use unethical practices and really do not care as they have become immune to emotions. But what goes around comes around! These leaders or so called leaders give a hoot less how you are impacted, they are only concerned about their paycheck!!
@HkPdcr4-1mgk I agree with you, the sooner we find out the better... I do not get @1feh angle here - why would we want management to control everything, the flow of info, etc. I'd rather know in advance so I can prep. Let's say, my group will be axed in July and somehow I find that out. I'd start prepping my resume, networking etc.
Not knowing is not help me. Yes, I'd be worried, but whatever, I'd prep. While, keeping it a secret, allows the managers to discard me at their own schedule, and I have a problem with that..
MY two cents, I am very low on the pay scale so I do not think anyone cares about my opinion
High level management quickly laid off 200 people to save all those salaries in June. They need to make budget for FY16 in order to get THEIR huge bonuses! Devry needs to lose the "Devry Cares"!! It's insulting to employees who are over worked and constantly in fear of losing their jobs.
Not only have they screwed the campus registrars over, online is completely understaffed after the many layoffs they have had. They are in panic mode. And students are being screwed by this too - the level of service is going to drop like crazy because of understaffing. If management truly believes this is going to turn things around, then they live in a dreamland with fairies and unicorns. Time for them to go because all they do is find ways to make things worse. Unless it was their job to turn it all into a glorified and overpriced diploma mill.
Was it just registrars laid off? Was admissions laid off... Any deans?
Greed that's shameful!
It is shameful the way this situation was handled. Many colleagues who have dedicated their lives to DeVry were impacted with the layoffs of the registrars and this new organizational change I mean old which is what we had when I first started with DeVry. DeVry wonders why their engagement scores are so low when it comes to trust and they can 't turnaround. The big campuses continue to spend money on the backs of smaller campuses. You referenced DH how about JB he came from Cordon Blu and look what happen to them. Now he has the entire organizational chart reporting to him. Absolute disaster! This was a blessing! Now I can truly have work life balance.
registrars werent the only ones laid off- many people across Devry were and without notice. They way they did it was shameful. Treating people as if they did something wrong. Devry doesnt care about their employees or their students- they reward incompetency and could careless about being ethical and honest. Corporate needs to check themselves- the people that got laid off are in far better places because its a sinking ship. I will never have one nice thing to say about Devry- I think the shareholders will like to know what actually occurs within the metros- maybe ill buy some stock and share shed some light on the next shareholder meeting
Shame on you for writting such garbage... people need to know where they stand and need to know when the decision is made.. not when devry finds it suits there interest... you and your overlords are nothing but blood sucking leeches... it is a shame so few have done so much damage. Since DH took over you have lost $300 mil in market cap and DH has been rewarded
With $100 mil you should be ashamed for representing the employer of choice... last choice..uour strategies have failed and hard working people are paying the price for your incompetence
FYI - it's true.
I wish they would have done what they should have done years ago when they had a chance. They continued taking advantage of the students with the new student "appreciation" and management with the new management like the new model they switched to - what a shame. Greed got in the way. My wife is a registrar and deserves better than to wait until the "day of" to be notified. It was once a great place to work and to go to school - I wouldn't treat my enemies the way they treat the students. Sheep to a fleecing comes to mind, if they could do it and get away with it, I'd bet Chicago would have a barbecue if they could. The campuses don't act the same as the Chicago overlords - it nothing but all about money to them and they frequently tie the hands of the campuses forcing them to do things the don't want to do. A great quote from a great movie Chicago should read and re-read: "Why don't you wake up and smell what your shoveling?" but alas it too late for them.
Personally, I would rather be forewarned than to have it sprung on me out of nowhere.
Shame on you @HkPdcr4! Even if this is true, what pitiful and childish pleasure does it give you to try to hurt these employees by posting it like this before they hear about it on their own in context. If this is true, however you found out, choosing to post this only adds unnecessary stress and worry to potentially impacted employees. If this proves to be true, and you are a leader at DeVry, than you should be doubly ashamed! Every leader who has ever been a part of a reduction knows that the cornerstone of caring for impacted employees in an unfortunate transition lies first and foremost with confidentiality.....you are a weak person. Shame on you!
