I am thinking of joining a startup which has brilliant founders. I might also get promotion in my job title and salary. Does that sound like a good idea? I've never worked for a startup before. What are the pros and cons?

Go startup, but do it with you eyes open. SU world, is 24/7 with no short term upside (you'd earn more at Intel or any other large tech) - but, the benefits are - less red tape, not just a number on the payroll, long term opportunity for wealth creation if you negotiate well :) ... much more fun and rewarding - but if course, risky... no moaning if it goes t**s up ;)
Title or promotion in a start up is a different ball game. Someone can promoted from engineer level 1 to director within three years in a start up (if u manage to have three successful projects). Such a thing would never happen in big company like Intel. Look at the money and see if they are paying a significant raise compared to your old job. Also take stock option and bonus into account when comparing the raise. Start up are likely to have no or low bonus notion year on year ...
Startups are now little money constrained since VC funding is little down at the moment. However if they are making an offer then they have a real need for your skill set. It's always good to try your hand at somewhere new and see how it turns out ...
I would take it if I were you. Intel had me working 24/7 anyway so would fit right into startup expectations.
