I read somewhere that because WD is paying everyone (thru WARN), the #'s of people actually laid off won't be accurate for another 8 weeks on that site. I was let go on 5/4 and my "separation date" is 7/3. I've no idea now many people were laid off the same day (or that week) but it's info I'd like to to convey to a future possibly employer, so they can understand the scope of the layoffs. But, I'd like to know the #'s NOW...since I've no intention of waiting to start interviewing.

This is only the beginning, prepare for a lot more...BET ON IT
A lot of those are old layoffs. Most dates are from last year. 5/4 layoffs were 81 in Irvine, 18 in Santa Ana and 105 in Fremont. Seems hard to believe that's the extent.
From a quick look at the WARN Notices for May, WD California layoffs were: WD Media San Jose: 2 WD Fremont: 109 WD Irvine: 81 WD Santa Ana: 18 WD Fremont: 105 WD San Jose: 71 It looks like the Fremont layoffs happened in two rounds, but it's not clear. I may have missed some, see http://www.edd.ca.gov/jobs_and_training/warn/WARN-Report-for-7-1-2015-to-05-10-2016.pdf
According to the WARN notices it was only 81 in Irvine, 18 in Santa Ana and 105 in Fremont. Seems way low. Is there any way they can skirt WARN requirements?
WD San Jose media site (across Costco on Automation) lay off about 60 people.
hard days this week
The WARN notices on that site should give the #'s cut at the California locations. But international and out-of-state cuts won't show up.
The numbers of WD/HGST workers laid off, by location, will likely appear on the Tuesday, May 10 update of WARN notices at: http://www.edd.ca.gov/jobs_and_training/Layoff_Services_WARN.htm
