Thread regarding W.W. Grainger Inc. layoffs

TSR's who were left out.

So I want to hear from the TSR's who were left out from landing any other roles with Grainger. Don't you love how they stated that you would get preference over an external candidate for an opening when that was really the furthest thing from the truth?? There are still open FAR sales positions posted and Grainger really plans to hire an external candidate for those. Any TSR who has not landed something odds are you wont cause what they are really saying without saying it is "WE DONT WANT YOU!!" I heard that Anyone who was a TSR will have to go back through the entire interview process again and compete neck for neck with an external candidate if you even land an interview.

I was recruited from a stable full-time job to come to Grainger. Most of what was told me during my recruitment were lies. I have worked in corporate sales for over 20 years and have never seen as much poor management from the top down in one place as I did during my time at Grainger, from my direct supervisor Shawn Pelletier to Bill Walton and up. Zero leadership skills and constant demeaning of employees and micromanagement. My sales numbers were well above goal and yet when the restructure was announced team mates that had never made goal much less been consistently above it were offered positions while I was ushered out the door. This has been a blessing for me but also an example of poor business management for a sales organization. I am not shocked at all at the continued demise of this once great company.

I went three years not even over goal but top of my team and was an Annual Achiever in 2014. The corporate culture has been severed from the top down and Jim Ryan clearly has no idea what is going on. For anyone who thinks getting cut from Grainger was a bad thing, dont. I mean, the PST was top notch but besides that the TSR/FAR is way underpaid and the value that is placed on those individuals is comparable to dirt. Be glad you no longer work at the company, take the severance and go out there and find a job that is going to pay you what you should be paid... I was mad at first but now I could not be any happier!

Yes unfortunately that is the corporate America world we live in where knowing people and networking gets you further than what you know and your performance. I have heard of some people getting passed up for account manager positions when the person who got passed up was over goal for the year and been with the company longer than the person who got the AM position.

The thing is Grainger would rather go externally for the remaining FAR positions that are open rather than retain someone internally. By now they have chosen who they want to retain.

I was a TSR that did not land a position. I had been with the company for about a year. I was told that that my performance and tenure was not good enough. What's funny about this is, at the time I was told this, I received and award for being the third highest seller in the region. SMH! This company is all about who you know, not how well you do your job. If you want to successful at Grainger, all you have to be is lazy and good a internal social networking. If you are not a "yes" person and self motivated, you will not last long.
