Basically strongly encouraging people to take the VSP. Does that mean they will fire the VSP people?

where are all those managers and ees who were posting on here last week claiming "VSP is just a formality, don't take the VSP, it doesn't mean that you'll be termed later, it's really your choice, I've declined VSP 3 times and I'm still here, I'm a manager and all of my ees who received VSP offers declined and are thriving today...yada yada yada" ???? CRICKETS! It's safe to say that to everyone who gave advice to TAKE THE VSP were on point.
Intel pays below market salary in exchange for job security. Looks like they'll have to increase their compensation by 15%. Oh we are back at square one....
A co-worker got an invite in his outlook to somewhat of mysterious sync meeting this AM with the GM/VP of the group. In that meeting today, he said they were strongly encouraged to take the VSP. He's been successful/L3 for a number of years, and said the GM said that things will only get more difficult and that the VSP is very generous, and it may not be offerred the next time around should he get an ISP, so take it while you can. The GM re-iterated that they WILL reach 12,000 cut come hell or high water, almost as a veiled threat. But the implications and the message were very clear:
1) If you are down the road average (i.e. S/L3) you will eventually get terminated given enough time. No growth means Intel views you somewhat as deadwood, just collecting a paycheck.
2) You need to operating at an L1/L2 level "regularly" -playing above the rim, if you wanna stay a member in good standing, moving forward. So the answer to the question of "Is Successful the new IR?" - thats a resounding yes. It will just be a slower process to get rid of you.
3) A bold new world of corporate culture tainted by fear, uncertainty, and doubt will mark the era of BK. That will be one of his greatest legacies of his watch. That along with missing/throwing in the towel on the mobile era of computing, getting lucky on the data center, and in general, missing all the early opportunities of moving the trend of computing forward.
BK, and Intel in general, right now, is relegated to the category of being a "fast follower". They are in over their head, trying to throw darts on wall, trying to figure out where they should follow, rather than trying to innovate their way out of it. Its led mostly by fear, uncertainty, and doubt, rather than by vision and confidence... oh yeah, kinda like how intel employees are walking around the office now :) Funny how things start at the top and trickle their way down to the rank-and-file, including the operational attitude.
In other news, Diane Bryant today gets an executive promotion, and a HUGE bonus, stock grants, and salary increase.... which, hmmm.... calculates to ... lets see, wow, the same amount as the recently let go 12,000 employees. Way to go DB!
There are two things to consider here. First is that Intel still needs to shed people NOW. While there are likely more people who've been offered VSP than they intend to let go, you're still taking a gamble by staying, especially if you see your project on the chopping block. If you get let go now though, it should still be like ISP package with exception that you can come back as rumors go.
But in addition there's still next year's focal. If you stay and make it past June, you should consider yourself on track for an ISP next year. You absolutely need to have a stellar year, AND you need to be on the same page about your contributions with your manager. Even then nothing is guaranteed. But if you don't have at least those two you should definitely consider yourself to be on borrowed time. And if get cut on ISP, you can't come back.
ACT hub was updated with info along these lines. Very unclearly written, but yeah, strongly consider taking the VSP

VSP will turn to ISP if numbers not met.
So you don't take VSP then what? They give you the better package with ISP where I don't sign my rights away and I can still apply for unemployment?
Oh noes whatever would I do were that to happen!
Quarterly Group Sync
What does QSG mean?
Yes, they even said they will do whatever it takes to meet the numbers. The management team is very committed I believe - exact words!
That was my impression
