Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

June 14th, 2012, glimpse of INTEL History! Right to Essence!

Interview with Mike Bell, Intel’s chief of mobile (at that time).

Intel dismisses ‘x86 tax’, sees no future for ARM or any of its competitors:

Says Bell then: “No, because we’re smart enough to not just sit there. We have these people that just really like what they do, and they’re really very good at it. Being able to accelerate, so we’re doing new stuff every year instead of two, is huge. The investment is really big, but the payoff will be larger.”

"The Payoff will be larger"... Four years later, we all see that Bell was right. Despite Bell somehow managed to mix character "P" with the character "L".

Present time:

Krzanich’s memo highlights five areas he believes will be critical to Intel’s growth and future: 1. The cloud, 2. the Internet of Things, 3. memory and FPGA technology, 4. 5G wireless, and 5. Moore’s Law.

So, I can say... 2, 4 and 5 are for INTEL already busted/failures. What about 1 and 3 (3 is success, ought to be success)?

The day Intel died was the day Krzanich and James were put in charge.

I should say, very interesting post. Well... This is direct push toward Cloud/Servers (1). And we see here the spending behavioral problems... Not strange to INTEL inner culture!

Let me restate point (2). INTEL is targeting certain areas in IOT, let us see the outcome of (2)?

4 and 5 are the weakest links. No go there, since so far INTEL did not do any practical 4G, and Samsung and Qualcomm are riding there. EUV lithography did not give any viable results, so far.

I do agree, (1) is the key point for INTEL future success. At least, for significantly smaller (50%), but considerably more efficient company in The Future.

Many groups under DCG are getting free rides because they're under the cloud umbrella. These software groups are getting big budgets and hire strictly grade 8 and above. Many have no travel restrictions and hops around from one conference to next. This is not fair and needs to be realigned with other groups. They are riding on the success of the server groups
