Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel should get rid of another 12K

From my experience, if another 12K people left Intel, it would make the company even more efficient. Think about any project team or group you've been in at Intel. If you could get rid of 1 out of every 10 person, do you think it it would make any difference? Perhaps make things go faster. There are so many managers and non-essential persons that just play gate keepers taking up meeting time without really contributing to the result... Of-course, as employee, nobody wants to lose their job but I think Intel is too bloated in the middle. just my opinion...

Thanks to the last poster who exposed these goons for who they really are. I wish there were more insiders that would do the same.

I left two years ago after being put on redeployment...best decision I EVER made....walked with a great severance and was getting paid 6 weeks while I took a consulting job. Intel is the most bureaucratic mess and those that can put together pretty slides and get visibility (for doing NOTHING) win big...such a shame...when I came to the company in the mid 90s we truly followed our values and constructive confrontation was done with excellent results....the list of new VPs this year is ridiculous...I worked with several of them in my career and they are not bright nor talented at all...and specifically some of these VPs that have been around forever (i.e. Jackie Sturm, Dan McKeon, - f'ing joke!)....Diane Bryant brought in Kim Stevenson...what a frickin' joke that chick is....no leadership at all...Renee James only had Andy Grove as an advocate...what another joke!!

Sad, but true.

Unfortunately, current layoffs mainly target solid performers and not bullshitters.

I believe the next round is inevitable and will target the same demographics.

It's the end of the game for Anything Intel does other than Servers.

Intel's business state as anyone can see is in a total mess, for reasons due to what was done by ealier management, more specifically paul's era. He has no growth vision. The real problem that intel is facing now is the growth and nothing was done on that front for 7 years, when the world was exploding on mobile front. A problem like that is not easily fixable by anyone.. all that is happening now is a result of that. A business (especially a public company) can run, if it is making money and can grow if it sees a foreseeable future. Intel does have a LOT of fat. We all know how successful intel has been in doing anything other CPU. We can pretty much say that intel makes no money anywhere else... communication ended up 10b writeoff..mobile is another writeoff in making.. tv chip..the list of failures at intel is pretty much everything else other than the.CPU and the.fab. So that leaves everything else to be fat. In reality,if AMD isrunning with 10k people, intel probably needs 40 to 50k people and.not more.. The outstanding threats for intel's current revenue streams are not easy to ignore..who knows when will apple switch from intel to.their own cpu. Never know when will google go half and half between xeon and open power server cpu.. never know when will china comapnies switch to their own server cpu either using.x86 license from amd or using open power architecture.. if these threats materialize what.intel.is left with is nothing but manufacturing technology. Dont see how intel can sustain any of these unless they continue to.trim down like what.they do.now.

There are talkers and doers. When there are layoffs, doers get hit disproportionately. Talkers survive better but they are no good for a company. Each round of layoffs will make the company more inefficient as there will be less folks (Doers) who actually do the work.

It is culminating. Those in Intel for long time might notice there never have been so many product fails before. Even what have not failed, haven't been any great success.

Last bastion for Intel, the x86 patents is also on the verge of falling as Chinese are stepping in, courtesy AMD.

They should remove at least 2 layers of management, focusing on the more expensive people.

Too many managers is not an Intel problem, it is an American business problem, even our government sector.

I will take the VSP in June BUT I agree our Dept. has 12 Indians and me. Most people are NOT going to take the VSP etc.. They ALL think they are Needed and IF they get axed the Company will go out of Business (LOL!). Most do Nothing but have meetings and create great Power Point slides to show their Manager and all the work was done by another department as they stole their Power Point slides and put their names on it (bwahahaha) I already know that trick as for 12 years I have been protecting my Job by doing the same (look busy all the time, stay late create great slides, complain and Bully the RCG's into doing more of your work that I get credit for.... NOW I can take 1 year pay 2 years Kaiser medical and get a real job and just repeat the process again..

Fire 1/2 the people with any kind of title "VP" as a start. These people make enough money to pay an army of engineers in a low cost geo

Unfortunately the targeting that is being done does not aim for the real fat of the company. For example how does any admin keep their job? They are absolutely non-essential. I think the only things they do are put up decorations and order pizza or BBQ.

I agree. Unfortunately, their current methodology is not going to effectively target the excess fat that you are talking about.

This is what happens when companies get really big. They get inefficient and the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing, but they keep hiring people because it makes it look like the business is growing. Then when things get bad they have to do these mass layoffs.

Upper Management is the problem and yes We need to start with BK . Definitely, Intel is not the same company and it will never be.

You're right, most people's jobs are complete bullshit. Nobody would notice if Intel lost another 12k, 20k, 30k, or 50k people.
