Thread regarding DeVry Inc. layoffs

Faculty layoffs: if you are faculty, you may be negatively impacted. Sorry. I also did not see it coming.

I have no intention of limiting my job search to just academic jobs. That market is hopelessly saturated at the moment. I'll probably return to my prior profession for a while until something better comes along. And you've got to admit, the current situation at DeVry makes pretty much everything look better by comparison.

I haven't been laid off yet, but it's only a matter of time for all of us. I only hope there's enough money left for a severance package by then!

Easy in what world, @HUQPkv2-4jza? Have you heard anything about what the academic job market is like right now?

Indeed, the bus is going over the cliff. I am one of the few faculty who were lucky enough to be offered a VSP 2 years ago. No wonder other faculty were congratulating us and before too long (a year later) they were gone too and the campus closed.

For those of us who have fallen, liken it to being thrown from the bus before it goes over the cliff. No one walks away from the impact. For those of us still standing, the only way forward is to believe every week could be your last. What do we have in common? Nous sommes des liones conduit par des anes.

The leadership at Devry has been extremely poor. They make decision and a few months later they notice the decision was not a good one. No strategy, no plan. Their only strategy is to cut employees. No plan on how to increase the students. That's extremely poor management. Veteran students are their bread and butter and they don't even know how to take care of them. Lots and lots of complaints.

My last day is July 8th. My non teaching session was July/August. That seems very unfair. They cut me before I could go on my non teaching session.

One solution to this. Become student focused! But in order to do that they have to actually train and continually develop student facing colleagues. That won't happen tho. All they know is be occupied with meetings and react to problems instead of being proactive and be leaders.
