I used to think like you till I realized how low the NOV pay scale is in comparison to the industry. Way better pay out there even outside the industry. I would only accept an offer for a higher position with better pay.
I was laid-off back in 09, got called back a year later, so far survived 5 layoffs, if I do ever get canned I'll come back again.

Was hired back at a new location with new title and better salary 7 months after I was laid off. No assurances of not being laid off. I was guaranteed unemployment benefits would be renewed. Since I was still unemployed I accepted it until something better came along. Not waiting to get chopped again.
Congratulations on being called back. NOV is a good company to work for and in this environment having a job is a good thing. As far as assurances go? Who has any insight into the future.
Can you be sure you won't be laid off again? I would want that assurance. Otherwise, I want nothing to do with Oil & Gas right now.
