Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

What is gonna happen to all the I.T. guys that are spread out all over the U.S.?

Is there really a need for an I.T. person at all the major warehouses across the U.S.? With all the downsizing you would think that they would have to shed some of the blood as well! If headcount is being reduced at the warehouses, then suffice to say that they need to let some people go as well! Part of the millions of dollars in savings! After all there is I.T. at the corporate offices? There also is no guarantee that the problem will happen at the site where they are located!

Don't worry! I saw a lot of Indians leaving the company. Seems there was a mass layoff of contractors 2-3 weeks back and now less number of cars in the parking lot. Either switch or stay in the sinking Titanic! All I know were good people who get the job done. Now Staples has become a company where suck-ups and people who go to after-parties are the ones taking promotion. Also, never forget who just to blah blah blah also succeed.

The same argument can be made for the service consultants and sales admins on the contract side. A service consultants role can be handled by the dismal customer service teams and lose more customers than what they're already losing. The sales admin position in my opinion is a lot of sitting on their a$$ reading a book. Yes, I've seen that.

They've already got a lot of Indians. Some of their IT operations are shockingly haphazard, relying on very few people who have little skill or commitment.

Staples SOP -

  1. Harass them and generally make them miserable, trying to make them quit.

  2. If they don't quit, fire them for made up performance issues. Try to block UI comp.

  3. Eliminate the position or higher someone else less qualified for $30k less. In this case they would probably pull a Disney and hire Indians on H1Bs.
