I would say time has run out. Intel had a good decade+ of minting money. They pissed the decade away buying companies that didn't pan out, focused on x86 and finding out it is now less and less relevant. And as the mobile world in ARMs assaults the X86 walls time has run out. Even the lead in process manufacturing has run out...
